State Of Play: Bank Of Ireland Age-Grade Club Competitions Update

The Bank of Ireland Munster Clubs age-grade boys’ competitions are continuing throughout the province with no shortage of exciting games being held every weekend.

For Phase 1 of the boys’ competitions, there were 41 U18 teams and 44 U16 teams competing across seven conferences in each age-grade with 212 fixtures completed by the end of November.

Based on how teams finished in their respective conferences, they were placed in either Cup, Plate or Bowl groups for Phase 2 which kicked off in December.

The top two teams from each of the seven conferences in Phase 1, in addition to the four best third-placed teams, qualified for the Phase 2 Cup competitions. The remaining teams were classified as Plate or Bowl for Phase 2.

Phase 2 Format and Knockout Stage Qualification

U18 Cup: 18 teams in three groups of six. Top two of each group and two best third-placed teams qualify for the quarter-finals. The remaining 10 teams will play in the Development Cup competition.

U18 Plate: 14 teams in two groups of seven. Top four in each group qualify for quarter-finals. The remaining six teams will play in the Development Plate competition.

U18 Bowl: 11 teams in two groups. Top four in each group qualify for quarter-finals. The remaining three teams will play in the Development Plate competition.

U16 Cup: 18 teams in three groups of six . Top two of each group and two best third-placed teams qualify for the quarter finals. The remaining 10 teams will play in the Development Cup competition.

U16 Plate: 14 teams two groups of seven. Top four in each group qualify for quarter-finals. The remaining six teams will play in the Development Plate competition.

U16 Bowl: 14 teams. Top four in each group qualify for the quarter-finals. The remaining six teams will play in the Development Plate competition.

The Phase 2 playoffs are expected to be held on the weekend of February 19th with the knockout stages and development competitions to take place thereafter.
