Weekend Round Up

Dolphin were the only First Division casualty of the weekend in the AIB All Ireland Cup, as Bruff remain the only Third Division side in the competition. In the Heineken Munster Junior League Cashel and Clonmel are the early pace setters in Division One.

Dolphin were the only team from the top flight to lose to a side from a lower division when they lost at the Mardyke 21-9 to U.C.C. Bruff also caused an upset with a 19-12 home win over Old Crescent.

Else where it was a good day for Munster clubs with Midleton the only other club to lose, going down 48-17 away to Malone.

Both Shannon and U.L. Bohemian made successful trips to Ulster with Shannon beating Belfast Harlequins 19-17 and U.L. overcame Dungannon 26-19.

Holders Garryowen defeated Lansdowne 26-5 at the RDS, while there were also victories for both Cork Constitution and Clonakilty in the capital.

In the Heineken Munster Junior League, Clonmel had to come from 18-0 down at half time to beat Youghal 39-18, while Cashel defeated newcomers Newport 30-10 and both these sides lead the way with maximum points.

Cobh Pirates also staged a second half revival coming from 17-5 down at half time to beat Richmond 21-17. Crosshaven had a 13-0 away win over Kilfeacle, but Clanwilliam?s poor start continues as they lost 49-5 away to Skibbereen.

In the other tie Bandon were full value for their 36-10 home win over Thurles.

In the Second Division Old Christians came from 6-0 down at half time to be Ballincollig 21-6 in the top game of the day. St. Senan?s are the early pace setters after their 67-25 drubbing of Douglas.

Kanturk and Muskerry made winning starts to their campaigns with Kanturk edging out Abbeyfeale 11-9 at the West Limerick venue, while home advantage saw Muskerry defeat Fermoy 22-13.

Ennis lost for the second successive week when Tralee defeated them 6-0 and Mallow got back to winning ways with a 34-8 home win over Newcastle West.

Killorglin playing their first ever game in the Junior League lost at home to Charleville. High flying Kinsale were lucky to defeat Killarney 11-6, while there also wins for Carrick-on-Suir, Presentation and Castleisland.
