Rockwell College edged out Presentation Brothers College 16-13 in the Clayton Hotels Munster Schools Junior Cup quarter-final at Irish Independent Park this afternoon.

Rockwell scored the first points with out-half Rory Collins converting a penalty in the 6th minute for the Tipperary school.

Minutes later, PBC responded with a penalty from out-half Ben O’Connor who took advantage of an opportunity in front of the sticks.

Collins then struck again and his second successful penalty pushed Rockwell into a narrow three-point lead in the 23rd minute.

After the break, Pres prop Hughie O’Callaghan crashed over from close range to reclaim the lead.

However, Rockwell soon reacted with captain Henry Buttimer making a darting break through the middle to beat the last defender and go over under the posts.

Collins converted the score before a penalty was awarded minutes later with the out-half taking full advantage and extending his side’s lead in the 41st minute.

Pres began to pressurise and it wasn’t long before Adam Twomey touched down following a period of pressure in the 22.

Rockwell’s defence remained strong to see out the game in the closing stages and secure their place in the semi-finals.

Rockwell College will now face Crescent College in the semi-finals during the w/c 11 March with fixtures details to be announced in due course.
