The Munster Rugby Development Department are continuing to promote fun challenges and encourage age-grade players to stay active during this period.

Technical Skills Development Coach, Mike Pettman, has recently set the U17 and U18 players skills challenges, which are also aligned to the senior player skills programme.

Rebecca O’Reilly and Mark O’Connell continue to provide S&C challenges with wall-sit and v-sit time trials, a burpee broad jump challenge and a fun keepy uppy challenge.

The activities are designed for players to complete at home, remain active and work on their skills and conditioning during this time.

The age-grade players are following a weekly S&C programme and Munster Age-Grade Athletic Development Coach, Ross Callaghan, said: “The purpose of the programme is to give the players some structure to their training week given the lack of group training they currently have available to them.

“They typically complete three running sessions a week, which is a mix of speed and conditioning work. They also have been provided with three body weight resistance training sessions to assist in maintaining and building strength levels.

“The programme for each group is slightly different but all of the training is focused around quality not quantity and we place a large emphasis on moving well.”

The players are also receiving detailed nutritional advice and Ross continued: “We are placing as much emphasis on nutrition, hydration, sleep, rest and recovery as we do on training.”
