ODM Munster Senior Challenge Cup Kicks Off

11th September 2008 By Munster Rugby

The ODM Munster Senior Cup begins with a mouth watering opening tie, as All Ireland League holders Cork Constitution take on UL Bohemian at Temple Hill this Saturday kick off 2.30.

Both sides are amongst the heavyweights in this competition and will each fancy their chance of claiming some silverware. With home advantage Con’ will be strong favourites to progress through.
The sides will know each other very well at this stages, having come face to face in both this competition and the AIL over the last three seasons, facing each other a total of six times. Con’ have claimed a clean sweep of successes in this period, including one game in 2005 which doubled up as both a League and Cup encounter.
Brendan Cutriss is the new captain in Temple Hill and will be eager to follow in the footsteps of Merle O’Connell from last season. The side have been very strong at this early stage of the season, with impressive successes against Dolphin and Waterpark to qualify for the Charity Cup.
Bohs’ have gone from strength to strength in recent years and with a lot of Junior and Under 20 players from last season pushing for a place on the team, they will be a formidable force for any Senior side. The experience of Martin McPhail as Captain should prove a pivotal tool.
Bohs have had a mixed start to their season. An impressive opening day victory against Bruff in the Limerick Charity Cup was followed up by a defeat in the semi-final at Garryowen last Tuesday night. The side will be eager to bounce back from this set-back and will be looking to finally get a victory against the Cork side.
It should provide for yet another intriguing encounter and could also give an indicator of how both sides are set for the rest of the season.
