Munster Rugby caught up with Niamh Briggs to get the head coach’s thoughts after Saturday’s 12-45 loss to the Barbarians in Thomond Park.

Although Munster were beaten, it proved to be a good learning experience for a very young squad. Four of the players involved against the Barbarians on Saturday made their senior debuts in the recent Interprovincial Championship which took place in August and September.

Munster were 7-38 down at half-time but a much improved second-half performance saw the final score finish 12-45 with some tries left behind for the home side.

After a busy couple of weeks and months which involved an Interpros and the weekend’s match against the Barbarians, the players now return to their clubs with the AIL season already up and running or for Munster’s international players, they will soon travel to Dubai for the World Rugby WXV competition.

“Overall from a scoreboard point of view, we are obviously very far behind, “Briggs said.

“But from a performance point of view, especially in that second-half, I think we definitely showed what we were about and I think that’s probably where the frustration lies, that we waited until that time to come out of our shells. But the effort, you can fault it, and I’m very proud of the group.”
