Méabh McElligott Named In Ireland U18 Girls 7s Side

Listowel RFC and Munster flyer Méabh McElligott has been named in the Ireland U18 Girls 7s side to compete at the Paris World Games this weekend.

The tournament takes place in the Centre National du Rugby, Marcoussis and Ireland will come up against sides from Canada and France.

The side is made up of three players from Connacht, including Beibhinn Parsons, who made her senior debut for both the Ireland Women’s 7s and 15s side this season. There are six Leinster players, two Ulster players and one from Munster.

The Paris World Games features over 700 teams who will compete across sports such as Badminton, Basketball, Football, Handball and Rugby 7s.

Last year saw 71 different countries represented, with 7,000 athletes taking part.

The Paris Games is the first tournament for the U18 Girls side this season and forms part of the Women’s 7s Development pathway for this group.

The team will also compete at the Home Nations tournament in Wales on the 17th/18th of August and will then come up against the best sides in Europe at the Rugby Europe U18 Girls 7s Championships in Jarcoin, Poland on August 31st and September 1st.
