Information Evening Held For Club Youth Coaches

Munster Rugby Lead Pathway Athletic Development Coach Rob Cassidy gives a presentation at this month's Youth Club coaches meeting in Charleville

Earlier this month, an information evening was held at the Charleville Park Hotel for youth club coaches from throughout the province.

The evening consisted of a number of presentations with useful information ahead of the coming season.

Munster Referee Development Manager Olly Hodges provided a laws update to the coaches before Munster Rugby Lead Pathway Athletic Development Coach Rob Cassidy provided some helpful tips and content surrounding nutrition, strength & conditioning and athletic development.

Some of the takeaway content from Cassidy’s presentation included the importance of session planning, recovery, nutrition and sleep.

“It was basically about trying to enforce decent habits in the young adolescents that are coming through our system,” Cassidy said of his presentation on the night.

“Looking at all things that don’t require talent like getting to sleep on time, what decent nutrition looks like and our 100 Point Recovery System – all those small things that affect behaviours that don’t require talent.”

Munster Rugby Participation Programme Co-ordinator Ray Gadsden provided information on the U17 Club County Competition before Munster Rugby Academy Manager Ian Costello gave a presentation on the Four Cornerstones Programme.

Munster Rugby Youth Committee Hon. Secretary Tom O’Leary, Fixtures Secretary Aidan Duggan and Chairperson Mike McInerney then gave a presentation on the rules and regulations surrounding the Bank of Ireland Munster Club U16 and U18.5 Cup competitions.

The committee members also answered a number of questions from the coaches in attendance in what proved to be a useful and informative evening for all in attendance.
