Over 80 1st to 4th year girls descended on Old Crescent RFC in Limerick earlier this month for a fun, girls tag rugby blitz day.
The event was organised by Tracey Duggan, Old Crescent CCRO, and was attended by three schools, Crescent College Comprehensive, Mungret College and Salesian College.
Telling us more about the day Duggan said:
“I chose to keep it a girls only event to help create a fun, positive environment where they could feel comfortable getting involved in rugby, especially at an age when many tend to drop out of sport.
“Over 80 girls attended on the day, which was fantastic to see. For many, it was their first experience with rugby, and the overall day was a huge success.”
Munster players Abbie Salter-Townshend and Saoirse Crowe also were in attendance on the day and held a Q&A with the girls as well as helping out by refereeing some of the games.
Speaking about their involvement Tracey said:
“We were so lucky to have Munster players Abby Salter-Townshend and Saoirse Crowe make a special guest appearance on the day. They helped referee a number of games and spoke to the girls about their own journeys in rugby and the positive impact sport has had on their lives.
“It was brilliant for the girls to see strong female role models involved in the sport and to show them the opportunities that sport can create.”
