Bank Of Ireland Munster Junior Cup State Of Play

The knock out stages of the Bank Of Ireland Munster Junior Cup continue this weekend as Old Crescent face Kilfeacle in the last quarter final pairing, while it is an all Cork matchup in the first semi final of the competition as Highfield meet Cork Constitution.
Round up all the action from the competition so far below.
Week One
The opening week of games in the Bank of Ireland Munster Junior Cup produced no upsets.
In a closely fought contest at Kilballyowen Park, Midleton defeated Bruff 17-12 with two tries from Cian Lambe, a penalty by Odhran Mahony and two conversions by James Fitzgerald. Darragh Browne and Mike Cooke replied with tries for Bruff and Matthew Daly kicked a conversion. Midleton will now travel to Shannon in the Second Round of the competition.
Douglas recorded a 15-14 away win at Dungarvan. Ben O’Flynn and Luke Johnson scored tries for Douglas. Patrick Carey kicked a conversion and a penalty. Brendan Cullinane and Seamus Keating replied with tries for Dungarvan and both were converted by David Hickey.
Douglas’ reward was a home tie against Tralee the following week, after the Kerry side defeated Scariff 28-10. Cathal Kearney scored two tries for Tralee, and Chris Lowe and Fionn de Quadros got one each Gavin Peevers converted all four tries. Evan McMahon and Clement Chalard replied with tries for Scariff.
Clonmel defeated Waterford City 24-7, with Waterford’s score being a penalty try. Clonmel will now travel to Annacotty to face U.L. Bohemian.
Week Two
In the second week of Bank of Ireland Munster Junior Cup action, Douglas caused quite the surprise with a 40-24 home win against Tralee, to book a home tie against Muskerry in Round Three. Cian Twomey scored two tries for Douglas and Ben O’Flynn, Rory Lynch and Peter Devine got one each. Patrick Carey kicked three conversions and three penalties. Ronan O’Sullivan, Ben Glavin and Leon Tanfin scored tries for Tralee. Tanfin kicked two conversions and a penalty, with Ben Quilter also adding a conversion.
Third Division champions Killarney defeated relegated Fethard 46-7. Donnachadh Grealy scored two tries for the Kerry side and Matt McAuliffe, Finn Kenneally, Harry Kelly, Mikey Moriarty and Craig McKenzie Vass got one each. Kelly kicked two conversions and Ciaran O’Brien one. James Ryan replied with a try for Fethard and Sean Fitzgerald converted.
Ballincollig defeated Youghal 29-17 to book a trip to Killarney in the next round. Aaron Hurley scored two tries for Ballincollig and John Hogan and Diarmuid Phelan got one apiece. Adam Dodd kicked three conversions and a penalty. Youghal replied with tries from John Coleman, Kelvin Yellop and Rory Fitzgerald. Nathan O’Halloran kicked one conversion.
In a high scoring game in Cobh, Carrick-on-Suir defeated the hosts 48-46. Jack Boylan scored five tries for Carrick’, Ronan Costello got two and James Daly one. Fionn Barry kicked four conversions. Cillian McCoitor, Kilian O’Connell, Brian O’Dwyer, Saul Kahn, Josh Crone and Jack Worrall replied with tries for the Pirates and Mick White kicked five conversions and two penalties. Carrick will host Nenagh Ormond in the next round.
Cashel recorded an 18-11 away win at Fermoy with tries from Paudie Leamy and Jack Kennedy. Ryan O’Sullivan kicked two penalties and a conversion. Reece Fitzgerald replied with a try for Fermoy and Eoin Lacey added two penalties. Cashel will host Mallow in Round Three.
Shannon will travel to Clanwilliam in the next round, after their 64-31 home win against Midleton. David Smith (3), Rhys Tucker (2), Marcus Moloney, David Keane, Scott Gleeson, Conor McCarthy and Alex Kennedy were the Shannon try scorers and Aaron Byrne kicked seven conversions. Jack Nesdale, Joe Connolly, Odhran Mahony and Darragh Daly (2) replied with tries for Midleton, Mahony kicked three conversions.
U.L. Bohemian defeated Clonmel 36-19 to earn a home tie against Kilfeacle. Mihlali Mgolodela scored two tries for The Robins and Conor Sheehan, Evan Lacey and Ola Ogunkoya got one each. They were also awarded a penalty try. Matthew Coonan kicked two conversions. Dave Coyne replied with two tries for Clonmel and Alan Slattery got one. Aidan Hickey kicked two conversions.
Dolphin defeated St. Senan’s 48-36 at Virgin Media Park. James Kennedy, David Webb, Jamie Taylor, Mikey Quinn, Darragh Tracey and Shane Birchall scored tries for Senan’s and Declan Rowe added three conversions.
Week Three
Holders Cork Constitution kicked off the third week of action as they advanced with a 31-20 home win against Garryowen. The winners led 12-6 at half time and had tries from Gavin O’Riordan, Michael Wall, Louis Kahn, Josh Daly and Luke Sisk. Ronan Byrd kicked three conversions.
Con will now host Muskerry in the Fourth Round, after the mid-Cork side had a narrow 26-24 win over Douglas at Castletreasure. Frankie Horgan scored two tries for the winners and Dan Hallissey and Cathal Dennehy got on each. Rob Cahill kicked three conversions. Charlie Devine replied with two tries for Douglas and Ben Costigan and Peter Devine got one each. Patrick Carey added two conversions.
Last year’s beaten finalists Old Crescent advanced with a narrow 31-27 away win at Waterpark. Luke Murphy scored two tries for Waterpark, Brandon Vosloo and Dean McGovern got one each. Dermot Lannon kicked a conversion and a penalty, and Cian Wakefield also added a conversion.
Old Crescent’s reward is a home tie against Shannon, after the Parish side defeated Clanwilliam 26-19 at the Tipperary venue. David Keane scored three tries for Shannon and Danny Williamson got one. Aaron Byrne kicked three conversions. Jack Armshaw, Niall Leahy and Nathan Crowe replied with tries for Clanwilliam and two of the tries were converted by Leahy.
Killarney continued on their great run with a 25-19 home win against Ballincollig. Donnchadh Grealy. Padraic Talbot and Diarmuid Carr were the Killarney try scorers. Grealy kicked two conversions and a penalty, Ciaran O’Brien also added a penalty. Aaron Hurley, Diarmuid Phelan and Robbie McSweeney replied with tries for Ballincollig and Adan Dodd kicked two conversions.
Killarney will now host Nenagh Ormond in Round Four, after the Tipperary side defeated Carrick-on-Suir 35-10. Jack Devanny, Brian O’Rouke and Robbie Tynan scored tries for Nenagh, who were also awarded two penalty tries. Darragh Gleeson kicked two conversions and Jamie Finn one. James Daly replied with a try for Carrick’ and Fionn Barry converted and also added a penalty.
St. Mary’s defeated Dolphin 37-27 at MultiFlow Park with two tries from Paul Curtis, and one each by Paul Loughran, Rob Guerin and Jake Madigan. Adam Guerin kicked three conversions and two penalties.
Mary’s will entertain Mallow in the next round, after the North Cork side recorded a 31-25 away win at Cashel. Dave Breen scored three tries for Mallow and Steven Finn and Jimmy Glynn got one each. Sam Glynn kicked two conversions and Barry Taylor one. Cashel replied with two tries from Ben Murray and one by Joey Davis. Marcello Frati kicked two conversions and two penalties.
Highfield edged out Bandon 17-8 at Woodleigh Park with tries from John O’Callaghan, Rob Murphy and Ronan O’Keeffe. O’Keeffe added one conversion. Daniel Lane replied with a try for Bandon and Daniel Coughlan kicked a penalty.
U.C.C. proved too strong for Clonakilty at The Vale, winning 45-14. Tom Coughlan (2), Peter Wall, James Nixted, Chris O’Brien and Rian O’Donoghue were the College try scorers and Daire Burke kicked five conversions. Tom Tyner and Fionn Murphy replied with tries for Clon’ and both were converted by Eoin Downey. College will now host Highfield in the next round.
A late rally by Richmond was not enough, as they lost 25-24 away to Old Christians. Mark Gleeson and Sammy Haberlin scored tries for Christians. Haberlin kicked four penalties and Noah Morris added a drop goal. Dillon Cotter replied with two tries for Richmond and Shane Halpin got one. Shane Purcell converted all three tries and also kicked a penalty.
Old Christians will host Young Munster, after the Cookies had a 79-15 home win against Thurles.
Week Four
Old Christians advanced to the quarter finals of the Bank of Ireland Munster Junior Cup with a 40-21 home win against Young Munster.
Mark Deane, Mark Gleeson, Sammy Haberlin, Tim Hegarty, Oscar Clark and Cian Smith scored tries for the Rathcooney side. Haberlin kicked two penalties and two conversions.
Old Christians will travel to Nenagh Ormond in the next round, after the Tipperary side defeated Killarney 17-7 at the Killarney venue. James Finn, John Healy and Robbie Tynan scored tries for Nenagh and Joseph Gleeson added a conversion. Tomas Clifford replied with a try for Killarney and Donnchadh Grealy converted.
Newcastle West defeated Kinsale 52-13 to setup a home quarter final against Cork Constitution. Sean Murphy scored four of Newcastle West’s eight tries. Shane Airey got two and James Guina and Sean Darcy got the others. Airey and Guina each kicked three conversions. Tom Good and Gavin McCarthy replied with tries for Kinsale and Dylan Lacey kicked a penalty.
Cork Constitution were 38-15 winners against Muskerry at Temple Hill. Bruce Matthews scored two tries for the winners and Gavin O’Riordan, David Bamidele, George Good and Mike Cogan got one each. Matthews kicked four conversions. Frankie Horgan and Ryan Spillane got a try each for Muskerry and Dan Morrissey kicked a penalty and a conversion.
St Mary’s defeated Mallow 21-15 at MultiFlow Park with two tries from Rob Guerin and one by Stephen Hayes. Adam Guerin converted all three tries. Dave Breen and Sean O’Riordan replied with tries for Mallow and Sam Glynn kicked a penalty and a conversion.
Mary’s will host either UCC or Highfield in the last eight.
Sunday’s Well came from 14-8 down at half time to beat Kanturk 18-14 at the Duhallow venue. Robert Loftus and Cormac Kelliher scored tries for the Well and Ciaran O’Conor kicked two penalties and a conversion. Ciaran Vaughan and Con O’Sullivan replied with tries for Kanturk and Matthew Hooton converted both.
The Well will have home advantage against Kilfeacle in the next round.
Week Five
On a quieter than usual weekend, Old Crescent last season’s beaten finalists Old Crescent have advanced to the quarter-finals of this years competition after their 22-19 victory over Shannon at Takumi Park.
Jason Aylward gave Crescent a great start with a try, which Aaron Cosgrove converted. Cosgrove extended the home side’s advantage with a penalty. Shannon made it 10-5 with a try from Kelvin Brown, but a second Old Crescent try from Sean Donnarumma gave the hosts a 15-5 interval lead.
Shannon came back into the game with tries from Brown and Tommy O’Driscoll, both were converted by Rory O’Gorman to lead 19-15 entering the final stages but a try from Tevita Toia converted by Cosgrove saw Crescent await the winners between Sunday’s Well and Kilfeacle in the last eight.
Week Six
Holders Cork Constitution booked their place in the Bank of Ireland Munster Junior Cup semi-finals with a comfortable 48-19 away win in Newcastle West. The visitors led 31-19 at half time. Ronan Byrd scored three tries, Luke Sisk O’Mahony two and George Good, Michael Cogan, Jacob Sheahan got one each for the holders. Aidan Moynihan kicked four conversions. Newcastle West replied with tries by Sean Murphy, Sean Corbett and Diarmuid O’Flynn. Shane Airey kicked two conversions.
Highfield defeated St. Mary’s 19-17 at MultiFlow Park. Keith McManus and Stephen Hayes were the Saints try scorers and Adam Guerin converted both and also added a penalty.
Nenagh Ormond booked their place in the last four with an 80-10 home win against Old Christians, scoring twelve tries. Sam Cusack got three and John Healy and Charlie O’Doherty got two each. Tom Crofts, Jake O’Kelly, Robbie Tynan, Joe Coffey and Fionn O’Meara got one each. Doherty kicked six conversions and Crofts four. Ben O’Connell replied with a try for the Rathcooney side and Sammy Haberlin kicked a conversion and a penalty.
Kilfeacle booked their place in the quarter-finals with a 22-7 away win against Sunday’s Well. Bob Purcell, Gavin Heuston and Bryan Mclaughlin scored tries for Kilfeacle and Luke Heuston kicked two conversions and a penalty. Alex Guerin scored a try for the ‘Well and Jazz Pendejito converted.
