All Ireland League Roundup

A great weekend for U.L. Bohemian as the men’s side gained promotion to Division 2A of the Energia Men’s All Ireland League and the women snatched an injury time victory to retain their league title.

A try by Caitriona Finn in the last play of the game saw U.L. Bohemian defeat Blackrock College 32-29 in the Women’s final at the Aviva Stadium and made it three successive titles in a row.

The Limerick side trailed 16-8 at half time with a try from Ciara O’Dwyer and a penalty by Kate Flannery. A second try by O’Dwyer, converted by Flannery closed the gap to a point early in the second half. Blackrock hit back with a penalty and a try to lead 24-15. Éabha Nic Dhonnacha scored Bohs third try and a try by player of the match Alana McInerney converted by Flannery had the defending champions ahead. Blackrock hit back with a try two minutes from time to lead 29-27. Before U.L. Bohs never say die attitude paid off with Finn’s match winning score.

U.L. Bohemian won promotion to Division 2A next season in the Men’s Energia All Ireland League, after their 58-33 win over Sligo at 4GUL ground. Killian Dineen and Darren Farrer scored two tries each for the winners, with Darragh O’Gorman, Oisin Fagan, Greg Fitzgerald and Liam O’Shanahan getting one each. Cian Casey kicked six conversions and two penalties.

The Division 2A Promotion/Relegation play off between U.C.C. and Shannon was abandoned, due to an injury, with the Students leading 31-12 at the time, but the IRFU will now have to decide what happens.

Shannon raced into an early 12-0 lead with tries from Harry Long and Matt Tepou and a conversion from Jamie Gavin. Tries from Ben O’Connor and James O’Leary and a conversion by Charlie O’Shea had the sides level 12-12 at half time. Further tries from O’Connor, O’Shea and Chris Barrett, two of which O’Shea converted put College into a strong position, before the game was halted unexpectedly.

Clonmel were crowned Division 2C champions after their 28-24 home win against Bective Rangers. Freddie Davies was the star for Clonmel scoring three tries and Luke Hogan got one. Josef O’Connor converted all four tries.
