Underage Weekend Roundup

Another engrossing weekend of rugby at underage level, following Friday’s Bank of Ireland Underage launch ahead of the Munster v Scarlets game

With the Bank of Ireland Underage competitions launched last Friday ahead of the Munster v Scarlets Pro12 game, it was back to action on the pitch on the weekend, as across all six competitions the knockout stages saw some no-holds barred rugby between the cream of underage rugby in the province.

In the Munster U18 Cup Tralee secured their quarter-final place with the narrowest of victories away to Newcastle West-Estuary. Two penalties was enough for the Kingdom outfit, who will go into a quarter-final matchup away to Bruff with a 6-5 victory. In the other playoff game Young Munster, coming off the back of a defeat to Skibbereen last week, comfortably saw off the challenge of Sunday’s Well on a 22-10 scoreline at Musgrave Park.

In the Plate meanwhile Thomond stole a victory against Cobh Pirates in the harbour, while four fixtures in the bowl saw home wins for Crosshaven, Old Christians, Youghal and Highfield.

The only playoff In the U16 Cup saw another tight affair, as Bruff defeated fellow Limerick side Young Munster-Scarrif by a single point on a 15-14 scoreline. In the bowl, like its U18 equivalent, also saw home wins in all four games.

Dolphin beat Carrick-on-Suir, Bandon defeated Waterford City, Fermoy saw off Douglas and Muskerry left Kilfeacle and District RFC empty handed.
