Underage Weekend Roundup

Some exciting ties in the knockout stages of the Bank of Ireland U16 & U18 competitions after an action-packed weekend of rugby.

Things are moving along swiftly in the Bank of Ireland Munster Club underage competitions, in which many concluded their group stages this weekend, with the draw for the knockout stages already providing some appetising ties across the province.

However, this weekend saw many of these teams secure their places in an exciting week at both U18 and U16 level, with a number of really tight games keeping supporters entertained in the latest stage ahead of this year’s finals.

In the U18 cup it was business as usual for Skibbereen who defeated Young Munster 30-13, however the Cookies had done enough in their previous games with both teams joining Bruff in making it out of Group 1.
In Group 3 meanwhile Waterpark secured their place in the knockout stages with victory over Garryowen, while despite defeating Dolphin 35-7, Muskerry exited the competition for this season at least.

In the other competitions Bruff scored a win over Kerry side Killorglin to book their place in the knockout stage of the U16 Cup, while in the Plate there were big wins for Cork Constitution in Group 1 and Highfield in Group 2.

The knockout stages of all six Bank of Ireland cups will be launched this Friday at Thomond Park, ahead of Munster’s crucial Pro12 clash with Llanelli Scarlets.

Meanwhile the girls' event reached its conclusion last weekend in Tralee, where Listowel/Tralee saw off the challenge of Bantry on a scoreline of 24-8. Meanwhile it was a special weekend for Thurles’ U18 girls, who beat Shannon by literally the tightest of margins on Satruday. The score had finished tied a 5-apiece, but the Tipperary outfit were crowned champions having scored the first try of the encounter. In the bowl the Newport Vixens were too strong for Kanturk, winning 63-5.

In the U15 cup Listowel/Tralee carried off the double by beating Kilrush in a nail-biting contest 31-24 while St Mary's took plate honours, defeating Mallow 24-0. Bantry awarded the bowl as Clonakilty did not travel.
