Action from last Friday's U16 Bowl final between Bandon and Dolphin. Bandon won 12-0 - Declan Forrest

The Bank of Ireland finals are in full flow as this weekend saw Bandon face Dolphin in the U16 Bowl final at Irish Independent Park, while at the same venue Cork Constitution and Sunday’s Well squared up for the Plate final last night.

The West Cork side were kicking off a massive weekend with their Juniors facing Clonmel in the Munster Junior Cup semi-final, and the younger bunch got off to the perfect start, crossing early for an unconverted try.

That was the only score in a tightly contested first-half, with both sides coming into the game in flying runs of form, both enjoying comfortable wins against Fermoy and Kilfeacle & District.

Bandon drubbed the North Cork side by 29 points, but having temporarily gone down to 14 men with a player in the bin, it was Bandon’s defence that proved strong, keeping out their city rivals before running in a crucial second score to make it 10-0, converted for a 12-0 victory and the perfect start to what turned out to be a momentous weekend in Old Chapel.

Last meanwhile it was an all-city affair, again involving a Musgrave-based side, this time Sunday’s Well acting as the evening’s ‘visitors’ against Cork Constitution.

Following last Friday’s cagey affair, this proved to be a much more free-scoring game, which Con dominated from start to finish. The Temple Hill side played some powerful rugby, and were comfortably ahead by half-time.

In the end a 37-7 victory saw Con extract revenge for their earlier defeat to the Well, and secure the first of what Constitution hope will be more trophies before the end of the season.
