Munsterrugby.ie take a look back at the 2019 Clayton Hotels Munster Schools Senior Cup final between Cork rivals CBC and PBC which took place on Sunday, March 17, at Irish Independent Park.

The highly-anticipated match marked the first between the two schools since 2007 when a Simon Zebo try helped the Mardyke based school to victory.

In what was the 110th Schools Senior Cup final, both schools were level on 29 titles each with the winner set to lift the Cup for a record 30th time.

An extremely close affair, CBC emerged victorious and edged out PBC 5-3 to make history at the Cork venue.

Match Report

CBC secured the first points on the board after captain Scott Buckley powered his way over from close range off the back of a rolling maul in the 13th minute.

Pres captain Louis Bruce responded with an impressive penalty strike minutes later when taking advantage of an opportunity left of the posts.

An electrifying break from CBC centre Killian Coghlan caused the Pres defence trouble before a series of errors from both sides halted momentum.

A kick through from Pres before the interval was close to sending Michael Hand over with CBC recovering well to collect the ball in the danger zone.

Christians missed a penalty opportunity after the break to extend their lead before controlling possession and going through the phases in the 22.

Harry O’Riordan nearly collected his own chip over the top to be in with a chance of scoring but Bruce secured the ball for Pres.

Possession went back and forth between the two sides with errors costing both.

Daniel Hurley showed promise in attack in the closing stages with a stretch of the legs down the left wing before being deemed in touch.

A final line-out steal from Christians before the ball was booted into the stand signalled the win in the dying moments.

CBC got the better of their Cork rivals to lift a record 30th Munster Schools Senior Cup trophy.
