Schools Junior Cup | St Munchin’s Overcome CBC & Progress To Final Four

In a thrilling Clayton Hotels Munster Schools Junior Cup quarter-final tie at Thomond Park that produced nine tries, defending champions St Munchin’s advanced to a semi-final meeting with Castletroy College after a 31-24 victory over Christian Brothers College in testing conditions.

Christians made a great start to this game racing into a 14-0 after 15 minutes with tries from Kevin Roche and Conor McNamara and both were converted by Andrew O’Mahony.

Holders St Munchin’s rallied with a try from Joshua Costello and just before half-time Gus Harrington scored Munchin’s second try and Cillian O’Connor converted to leave two between the sides, 14-12 at the break and a very wet Thomond Park.

Munchin’s hit the front two minutes into the second-half with a try from Stephen Hayes converted by O’Connor.

A second try from Conor McNamara tied the scores on 40 minutes with O’Mahony’s conversion.

Munchin’s playing like true champions hit the front again with their fourth try from Costello touching down and O’Connor added the extras for a 26-19 lead.

McNamara kept Christians in touch with his third try in the corner but the conversion attempt was off target to leave it 26-24 in favour of Munchin’s.

The Limerick side made sure of victory with a third try from Costello in the final minute of the game for a 31-24 victory.
