Rugby Participation Roundup

A view of our recent U15 Girls Blitz Days

As our Club and Community Rugby Officers (CCROs) begin to close out their season let’s round up their final few weeks of rugby action.

Under 15s In Action

Women’s Development Officer, Damien Hicks, recently ran two Under 15 Girls Schools 15-a-side Blitz Days for 1st and 2nd year students.

The reason behind these events was to help give players more of a understanding of the full pitch, 15-a-side game.

The rules were adapted for each day meaning scrums were uncontested but set up correctly so players developed there knowledge.

The blitz days also gave schools an idea of their playing numbers going into the new school year. We hope to see all the schools who took part compete in next year’s U16 Girls Schools League and Junior Cup.

Skibbereen Community School hosted Day One of the blitz day in Skibbereen RFC grounds while Day Two was hosted by Bandon Grammar.

Over 235 girls took part across both days from Skibbereen Community School, Colaiste Pobail Bheanntrai, St Mary’s Mallow, Carrigaline Community School, Colaiste Cholim Ballincollig, Kinsale Community School and Bandon Grammar.

Mallow Magic

The North Cork town was a hive of activity recently as they hosted a successful girls blitz for national schools around the area.

There were over 150 students from four different schools taking part in the event that was organised by Mallow RFC CCRO’s Kathleen O’Brien and Kenneth Mills.

The girls took part in a number of touch rugby games that allowed everyone to take part no matter their ability or level of rugby experience.

Take a look at some of the top shots from the day below.

Kicking It In The Kingdom

There was serious action taking place in the Kingdom of Kerry last week as Cahersiveen National School hosted a well attended blitz day.

Kicking off in Iveragh Eagles, there were five school from the area in attendance with over 100 students taking part.

There was some fantastic running rugby played under the Kerry sunshine.

Check out some photos from across the day below.
