Round Up | Munster Women & U18 Girls Interprovincial Championship

Munster Women were defeated 13-20 by Leinster in a close contest at Irish Independent Park earlier today to set up a semi-final meeting with Connacht on Saturday 14 September at St. Mary’s College RFC.

Sarah Quin and Laura Sheehan crossed for the home side as Claire Keohane added a penalty while Megan Williams and Juliet Short scored Leinster’s tries and Hannah O’Connor added the extras.

Munster finished second after the round-robin phase of the IRFU Women’s Interprovincial Championship, previously defeating Ulster 38-12 and overcoming Connacht 27-6, who finished third.

Munster U18 Girls lost out 10-22 to Leinster at Irish Independent Park earlier today in the final round of the U18 Women’s Interprovincial Series.

Eileen Gleeson scored Munster’s try, which was converted by Emma Connolly and contributed to an earlier penalty from Connolly in the opening stages.

Leinster tries came courtesy of Katie Whelan (2) and Ellie Meade with Emma Kelly and Ava Jenkins adding conversions, while Kelly also claimed a penalty.

Munster will meet Leinster in the semi-final of the U18 Women’s competition at St. Mary’s College RFC, Templeville Road, on Saturday 14 September.

Leinster finished first after the round-robin phase while Munster finished bottom after three games meaning the two sides will once again face one another in Dublin in two weeks’ time.

MU Barnhall RFC’s grounds in Parsonstown, Co. Kildare have been confirmed as the venue for the final round of games on Saturday 21 September for both the Women’s and U18 Women’s competitions.
