Preparations for this year’s Bank of Ireland Munster Rugby Talent Camps are already underway with a series of trials at U16, U17, U18 and U19 level having identified Munster’s newest recruits for this summer’s talent squads.

As part of the Munster Age-Grade Player Development Programme, the talent camps begin on Monday 1 July with players benefitting from professional facilities throughout the summer months.

Two parent information evenings were recently held in Charleville to inform parents and players of the residential talent programme schedule, which includes on-pitch activities, strength and conditioning sessions as well as nutritional and player welfare tutorials.

The talent camps provide an opportunity for coaches to see how players adapt to the professional environment, and to have a closer look at the talent already identified across the various age-grades.

The U17, U18 and U19 squads will remain in camp for six weeks during the summer months.

An extensive trial process took place to identify U16 boys for the summer programme with over 160 players involved in the initial rounds of selection.

The 2019 talent camp programme will see over 80 players develop their skills across two training centres, the University of Limerick and Cork Institute of Technology.

The Munster Women and U18 Girls development programme will commence on Tuesday 2 July at the University of Limerick and Cork Institute of Technology respectively.

The Talent Identification Programme (TIP) continues into its second season with eight players aged 19-21 set to develop their skills alongside the Munster Women’s programme.

The aim of the TIP programme is to enhance the player’s experience of the game and provide an early opportunity for those involved to progress towards the Women’s pathway.

For the first time, both squads will be coached and managed by all female staff with a number of current and former Munster players as well as Irish internationals included in the coaching teams.

All talent camps will incorporate preparations for the upcoming interprovincial campaigns commencing in the coming months while also giving players, coaches and management a unique opportunity to familiarise themselves with their squads.

Throughout the camps, it is envisaged that players will be identified for future development programmes as part of Munster Rugby’s overall objective to build for the future.

News and updates from the Bank of Ireland Talent Camps will be shared across Munster Rugby channels over the coming months.
