The only game played in the top flight saw leaders Richmond extend their lead at the top of the First Division of the Munster Junior League after their 19-13 win over Newcastle West at the 4G UL pitch after Richmond Park was declared unplayable.

Richmond were awarded a penalty try after seventeen minutes and extended their lead with a try from Eoin Hanly which Tadgh Bennett converted five minutes before half time. Two penalties from Sean Herlihy left Richmond leading 14-6 at the interval.

Gearoid Phelan scored a third try for Richmond with fifteen minutes to go but a try from Brian O’Sullivan converted by Herlihy secured a losing bonus point for the visitors and kept alive their hopes of a top four finish.

Crosshaven bounced back from their defeat by Kinsale last week with a 22-0 home win against Old Christians to remain top of Division Two.

Playing into the elements Crosshaven led 5-0 at half time with a try from James Bourke. The Seasiders took control in the second half with Bourke, Jamie Kind and Sean Scriven adding further tries. Michael Lynch kicked one conversion.

Castleisland moved up to second place seven points behind the leaders after their 30-15 home win over Kinsale. Kieran Downey scored two tries for the winners and Pat Fitzgerald and Willie Casey got one apiece. Dan O’Shea kicked two conversions and two penalties. Joe Lyons and Wayne Falvey replied with tries for Kinsale and Barry McGrory kicked a conversion and a penalty.

Clonakilty were leading Ballincollig 19-5 when the referee called a halt to proceedings early in the second half. Peter Shallow scored two tries for Clon’ and Robert Finglas one. Eoghan Deasy kicked two conversions and Aaron O’Flynn replied with a try for Ballincollig.

Fethard maintained their challenge for the Third Division title after their 34-7 win over bottom side Douglas-Carrigaline in a game that was transferred to Carrick-on-Suir’s pitch.

PJ Morrissey scored two tries for the winners and Conor Kavanagh, Joe Morgan, Gary Kavanagh and Emmet O’Shea scored one each. Gary Kavanagh kicked two conversions.

Tralee continued their recent good run with a 25-7 home win over Killorglin. The Kerry side led 10-7 at half time and had tries from Fearghal Ó’Nuallain, Rob Murphy, Jeff Foley and Jack Quilter. Quilter converted two of the tries. Declan Coppinger was Bantry’s try scorer and Andre Polivka converted and added a penalty.

Cork Constitution took a big step towards retaining their Junior 2 League South title with a 19-0 win over Dolphin before a large crowd at Temple Hill. Tries from Doug Abbott and Simon Barry and a conversion by Robbie O’Flynn had the home side 12-0 ahead at half time. Cormac Fouhy scored one after the break which O’Flynn converted.
