Clubs Across Munster Take Part In Respect Our Game Initiative

Dungarvan RFC respect through generations

The IRFU is calling on all Clubs to take part in a series of Respect Our Game activities to remind everyone of the values of the game, specifically the importance of RESPECT, for players, match officials, volunteers, members and spectators.

The purpose of the initiative is to highlight our values of the game and to showcase all that is good in rugby through involvement in the club. It is an opportunity to showcase how rugby can positively contribute to our lives when carried out in a respectful and safe environment.  Activities, such as fair play awards at adult games, silent/positive sidelines at youth games and/or presentations to the parents and coaches on their influential role within the game will all be a part of the initiative.

Here is what some of the Munster clubs taking part got up to over the last few weeks.

Dungarvan RFC in Waterford has been leading the way with championing respect within their club.

Speaking to Karen Walsh, Child Liaison Officer for Dungarvan RFC, she said:

“In the heart of our Respect Our Game campaign, our grassroots coaches stand as pillars of leadership and mentorship at Dungarvan Rugby Club. These dedicated individuals not only teach the game’s skills but instil values of respect and sportsmanship in every young player.”

“Their influence reaches beyond the field, as they inspire our young athletes to grow both in the game and as individuals. The parents on the sidelines see this every week, deeply appreciating the coaches’ unwavering commitment and the positive impact they have on their children.”

“As we continue to grow, we’re inviting parents and volunteers to join our rugby family, contributing to the vibrant community we’re building at Dungarvan.”

“At minis level we have them reciting our code of conduct before training sessions and games in the form of a chant. We also have a number of events planned for the remainder of the season from encouraging silent sidelines while at away games to showcasing the different roles within the club and championing each and every volunteer that is making a difference.”

For the minis games the highlight of the day was the game of tug-o-war as a number of parents and coaches jumped in to lend a hand and have a bit of fun.

The coaching staff looked pretty in pink throughout the weekend as they sported the IRFU Respect merchandise that was distributed to the clubs involved in the initiative.

It was a great weekend for all down in sunny Coonagh.

For Old Crescent, arts and crafts was on the cards as the under 10 and under 12 girls put on a colourful display.
