Disappointing start to UBL

Omagh were the visitors to Bruff last weekend for the opening game of the Ulster Bank League. It was Omaghs first outing in the senior ranks for 17 years after securing promotion from the Junior leagues last season.

The early signs were good for Bruff leading 10-3 after seventeen minutes. Paidi Kilcoyne was on hand to score the opening try of the game after just five minutes with Eric Finn picking up a second five pointer after seventeen minutes. Omagh scored a penalty after eleven minutes and again on the thirty minute mark from the boot of Scott Elliot. However it was Omagh that went in leading at half time scoring a try just before the whistle scored by Adam Pollock.

The second half only yielded two scores, a penalty each for each side. Davie O Grady put Bruff into the lead 13-11 on the 65 minute mark but it was Omaghs Scott Elliot who was to deliver the winning kick for Omagh in the 67th minute for a 13-14 win.

Bull & Booze

Registrations are still open for this year’s Bull n Booze Tag Festival which takes place on Friday, 29th September.

The action on the pitch will match teams to their ability, so whether you are highly skilled veteran tag players or are just outright beginners, we can promise that you will be up against teams at the same level and will have a great day out.

The Format this year is going to be a little different as it has to take place at Rugby Season time so what we have decided to do is to re-jig the competition to create a midnight final under floodlights on the Friday night.
Games are going to start at around 7:00 pm on Friday night with the competition running straight through until the floodlit final.

There’s also free on site camping available so you can play and stay.

It’s not just The Bull’s field – it’s yours!

Please check the Bruff RFC website for details on how to book.

Old Crescent RFC are delighted to announce that Darragh O’Brien has been selected as Club Captain for the coming season.  Darragh is 24 and comes from Castletroy in Limerick.  He played his schools rugby with Castletroy College and his college rugby with UCC, where he recently completed a masters in post primary education and is now a qualified English and History teacher.

Darragh O’Brien joined Old Crescent three years ago and winning the UBL Division 2C with the Club a year ago was the highlight of his time with the Club.  Having just missed out on back to back promotion last season, Darragh is determined that Old Crescent will be pushing hard for promotion to 2A this season.
