Clonmel On Course For Four In A Row

Conor Cooney scored fourteen points in Clonmel's 19-16 win over Cashel

Action gets underway in the top two divisions of the Munster Junior League on Sunday.

Defending champions Clonmel began their quest for a fourth successive title against Skibbereen at the Carbery Showgrounds.

Kanturk, who are back in Junior ranks after four years as a Senior Club, open their account against former AIL side Waterpark, who were promoted as Division 2 champions after one season in the lower division.

Bandon and Newcastle West will also be aiming to be among challengers for the title. The West Cork side begin their campaign away to Cobh Pirates, while Newcastle West begin their challenge with a home tie against Clanwilliam.

In other ties, Galbally are at home to Richmond, St. Senan’s host Abbeyfeale and newly promoted Youghal welcome Kilfeacle to East Cork.

Former AIL side Clonakilty, who were relegated from Division 1, face tough opener as they welcome Thurles to the Vale. The Tipperary side, who claimed two pieces of silverware last season, will be aiming to make up for the disappointment of missing out on promotion.

The other sides that were relegated from the top flight are in local derby action as Muskerry are away to Crosshaven and Old Christians host newly promoted Mitchelstown.

The other promoted side Killarney are at home to Castleisland in a Kingdom derby.

Ballincollig face a tough opener as they host St Mary’s and Kinsale lock horns with Mallow in South Cork.

Elsewhere, the last quarter final of the O’Neill Cup sees Charleville locking horns with Fermoy at Smith’s Road. The winners will be rewarded with a home semi-final against North Cork neighbours Mallow.
