Christians Into Junior Cup Semis

Christian Brothers College booked their place in the final four of the Clayton Hotels Munster Schools Junior Cup with a comprehensive 30-8 victory over Ardscoil Rís at Irish Independent Park..

The Sydney Hill College looked to play an expansive game in blustery conditions and could have won by a bigger margin had it not been for handling errors short of the line.

Christians’ Cian Whooley and Ard Scoil’s James Hourigan traded penalties in the opening ten minutes.

The Sidney Hill College had to wait until the 24th minute to take the lead when Aaron Leahy scored the game’s opening try following a series of forward drives deep in the Limerick side’s 22.

Whooley slotted over his second penalty on the stroke of half time to give Christians an interval lead of 11-3.

Wayward shooting from penalties was proving to be costly for the cork side early in the second half and Killian Dineen brought Ard Scoil within touching distance of Christians with a try in the corner following a break on his own ten-metre line.

The final quarter was one-way traffic in Christians’ favour as Leo Daly scored an intercept try deep inside the Ard Scoil 22 and George Coomber converted to give them a ten-point lead 18-8.

Conor Lavin and Robbie Shalloe added further tries for Christians, with Whooley converting the latter from a difficult angle with the last kick of the game.
