Charity Cup Gets Underway

The new Munster rugby season gets underway this weekend with games in the Charity Cups in Cork and Limerick and in Tipperary there are three games listed in the Mansergh Cup.

UCC and Dolphin, who last won the trophy in 2013, get the show on the road in the first semi-final of the Cork Charity Cup at the Mardyke on Thursday evening. College’s last success was back in 1982, while Dolphin were the holders in 2013.

The second semi-final between Highfield and holders Cork Constitution is at Woodleigh Park on Friday. This is a repeat of last season’s final, which the Temple Hill side won after extra time at this venue last January. The Lilywhites are seeking their fourth title in five seasons, while Highfield’s last success was in 1975.

The final is due to be played at Temple Hill on Saturday September 2nd.

The semi-finals of the inaugural Cork Charity Shield are down for decision on Saturday, with Sunday’s Well and Midleton at home to Tipperary opposition.

Midleton are at home to Cashel and Sunday’s Well entertain Clonmel at Irish Independent Park. The final is due to be played on Saturday September 2nd at a venue to be confirmed at a later date.

Proceedings get underway in the Limerick Charity Cup on Friday evening as Thomond lock horns with UL Bohemian at Liam Fitzgerald Park.

The winners will be rewarded with a home semi-final against Nenagh Ormond or Shannon who go head to head in North Tipperary on Friday evening also.

On Saturday, holders Young Munster begin their defence of the trophy with a home tie against Garryowen. The winners will be at home to Old Crescent or Bruff, who meet at Rosbrien.

The semi-finals are scheduled for next weekend with the final to be played on the 17th November.

Daughters of Charity St. Vincent’s Lisnagry.

There are three Mansergh Cup ties down for decision on Sunday. Clanwilliam lock horns with near neighbours Kilfeacle in Tipperary Town, Thurles are at home to Nenagh Ormond and Clonmel entertain Waterpark at the South Tipperary venue.
