Young Munster will meet Thomond in the first round of the Limerick Charity Cup on Friday night

The first round of the Sporting Limerick Charity Cup Cork gets underway this weekend, while the semi-finals of the Cork Charity Cup and Cork Charity Shield competitions also take place.

The Limerick Charity Cup is run every year with the generous rugby public coming out to support their teams and the various charities that are designated to benefit.

This year the proceeds of the gates taken at each venue will go to Milford Hospice, Limerick Marine Search & Rescue, Parkinson’s Association, Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association, St. Vincent’s Lisnagry, and the Redemptorist Fathers Christmas Poor Campaign.

The Limerick Charity Cup kicks-off on Friday 24 August in Bruff which sees Bruff host Old Crescent while Shannon entertain Garryowen at Coonagh. The Young Munster club play Thomond in Tom Clifford Park, with both matches starting at 7.30pm.

On Saturday 25 August, the first round will be completed with UL Bohemian hosting the winners of last season’s competition, Nenagh Ormond, in Annacotty at 2.30pm.

Fri 24 August: Young Munster RFC v Thomond RFC, Tom Clifford Park (kick-off 7.30pm)

Sat 25 August: UL Bohemian RFC v Nenagh Ormond RFC, Annacotty (kick-off 2.30pm)

The semi-finals are scheduled to take place on Friday 31 August/ Saturday 1 September with the following draw.

Bruff/Old Crescent v Shannon/Garryowen

The competition is a great opportunity to see teams prepare for the upcoming All Ireland League season and also make a significant contribution to local charities.

Again like last season, the Cork Charity Cup will be contested by the top four sides in the All Ireland League, while the other sides along with Clonmel will contest the Shield for the Cyril Fitzgerald Plate.

The semi-finals are scheduled for this weekend with both finals going ahead in a double-decker fixture at Irish Independent Park On Saturday 1 September subject to the availability of the ground.

In the Charity Cup, both of last year’s finalists have been kept apart. Holders Cork Constitution will play Highfield and UCC will host Dolphin.

In the Shield, defending champions Cashel travel to play Sunday’s Well in a repeat of last season’s final and Midleton will host Clonmel in the other tie.
