Weekend’s Preview

A quite weekend with one AIL game and three Munster Junior Cup games dominating the weekend’s program

Old Crescent and Clonakilty meet in an AIB Second Division AIL game at Rosbrien on Sunday. This is a crucial tie to both sides. A win for the home side will see them move to within two points of second place U.C.C. Clonakilty have move moved out of the relegation zone with wins over Belfast Harlequins and Wanderers but they will have it all to do to get the points from this encounter.

The Munster Junior Cup continues this weekend with three fourth round ties down for decision.

In the Munster Junior Cup the tie of the round sees Crosshaven travel to Limerick to take on Richmond. The Limerick side qualified for this encounter following their dramatic comeback against City neighbours Young Munster in the previous round, which they won 18-10, after having been 10-0 in arrears.

The visitors meanwhile are Junior Clubs’ Challenge Cup holders and they will meet League champions Cashel in next week’s decider, so it is a crucial few days for the Seasiders.

Clonmel and Garryowen have it all to do again as they lock horns in a replay at the South Tipperary venue, following their 22-22 draw at Dooradoyle.

Ennis, following their 13-5 away win over Newport in the last round, entertain U.L. Bohemian, who recorded a narrow 17-15 home win against Junior League champions Cashel last time out.

It is a busy weekend in the Munster Junior Plate, with six ties spread across three rounds.

The pick of the day sees Galbally entertain holders St. Senan’s at the South Limerick venue, following their drawn 10-10 second round tie at Jimmy Slattery Park.

In round three, Shannon travel to the Kingdom to take on Killarney and Kinsale have a home tie with St. Mary’s, while Young Munster make the short trip to Newport to take on the Tipperary side.

Two teams with contrasting fortunes in the Junior League go head to head at Crageens when Division 3 Section A leaders Castleisland entertain near neighbours Abbeyfeale, who are fighting a relegation battle in Division 2, in their fourth round encounter.

The only other game in round four sees Old Christians entertain Newcastle West at Rathcooney.

In a quiet weekend in the Junior League there will be nothing more than pride at stake at the Spafield in the only game in Division 1 when back to back champions Cashel entertain near neighbours Kilfeacle in the Tipperary derby.

Next week Cashel have an opportunity to collect more silverware as they take on holders Crosshaven in the Munster Junior Club’s Challenge Cup final.

In Division 2, Youghal travel to Duhallow to take on Kanturk and following last week’s narrow 20-19 home win over Ennis, maximum points are vital for the East Cork side if they are to avoid a second successive relegation.

Bottom side Mallow will have it all to do as they have a tricky home tie against North Cork neighbours Charleville at St. Joseph’s Road, while a win for the home side will be a massive boost in their bid to remain in the second tier for another season.

In Division 3 Section A: Kilrush should gain maximum points from their home tie against Banner County neighbours Scariff and put pressure on both Presentation and St. Mary’s in their outside bid to join Castleisland in the semi finals.

In the other section of the third tier, Douglas travel to West Waterford to take on bottom side Dungarvan and the Cork side should be expected to pick up maximum points in order to boost their slim promotion aspirations
