Munster 27 – 17 Leinster

As the sun came down on the first weekend of Interprovincial competition the Munster U18 Girls took to the field to face rivals Leinster in their opening round fixture.

A dominant second half performance saw Damien Hicks’ side take the win with a final score of 27-17.

It took until the 20th minute for either side to lodge a score with Leinster making it to the mark first as Sophia White kicked a penalty right between the post.

But Munster bit back as Alice Buckley crashed over in the 27th minute. Out half, Eden Waters, added the extras to bring the score to 7-3.

Leinster were in again just before the break as winger Mary O’Hara sprinted over to touch down with White adding the extras.

Running into the sheds at the half time whistle the score stood at 7-10.

Munster were first to get score on the board in the second half as Charlotte Deegan crossed over. Waters added the extra two to put the side ahead once more.

The home side weren’t away from the try line for long as just four minutes later Cora Miller broke the line on the wing and touched down in the corner. Waters stood to the task in the touchline conversion that followed, slotting the ball right between the posts.

Back to back penalties all but secured the victory for the home side but Leinster had the final say as they ran in a well worked try in the closing stages.

But it was the girls in red that took the spoils with a final score of 27-17.
