The Annual General Meeting of the Munster Branch was held on Tuesday night in Cashel RFC before a large audience.

The outgoing President Sean Loftus thanked everyone for their help and support over the season and proposed Peter Silke, Cashel RFC, as the new President of the Munster Branch for season 2026/27.

Peter grew up in Dunmore, Co Galway, home of the Dunmore MacHales GAA Club, with whom he played with. An All-Ireland Minor medal holder, Silke didn’t find himself involved in rugby until 1971 when he joined Bohemians RFC after being relocated to Limerick through his job with AIB.

In 1990 Peter was appointed as Branch Manager in AIB Cashel so made the move across the border to Tipperary.

Speaking about the move he said:

“I arrived in Cashel in the 90’s with a wife and three young sons in tow. I found the club to be so incredibly welcoming and quickly found myself involved in coaching some of the age-grade sides. This was a very rewarding experience as the club produced many excellent players at this time, including our very own Denis Leamy.

“I proudly served as President of the club from 2005-2009. This was a very exciting time for the club as our new clubhouse was being built. I then went on to serve as club Chairman during the 2016/2017 season.”

Cashel RFC achieved Senior status and a place in the All Ireland League in 2011. In addition to winning the league and promotion, the club also won the coveted Munster Junior Cup. Peter’s sons Peter, John and Brain, all played for the club with John and Brian both captaining sides during their time.

Peter has been a part of the Munster Branch Committee since 2011 and served as Chair of Age-Grade for three seasons.

Speaking at Tuesdays AGM Peter said:

“I’d like to thank my wife Geraldine and my family for their continued support throughout the years. My thanks to Cashel RFC for their nomination. It is an honour to be able to represent this prestigious club at this level and it could not have come to fruition without all the work of the wonderful Players , Coaches, Committees, Volunteers and Sponsors who have brought the club to where it is today.

“I’d like to thank the Munster Volunteers,  CEO Dr Ian Flanagan and the professional staff for their continued hard work and support. I wish Clayton McMillan, his coaching staff and the players every success during the season ahead.

“My hope for this season is to see the Munster competing at the top table of European Rugby and all clubs competing at a high level domestically. The talent and determination is strong within the province and with everyone working together the ultimate goal can be achieved.”
