Club Notes | Centenary Clubs Celebrate With Carrauntoohil Climb

As part of their pre-season preparations, the Junior Men’s teams of both Bantry Bay and Castleisland RFC will take on Ireland’s highest peak, Carrauntoohil, on the 5th of July.

The climb marks a special milestone for both clubs as they celebrate their 100th anniversaries.

To commemorate the occasion in true rugby style, the teams are aiming to perform the highest lineout on Ireland’s tallest mountain.

Carrauntoohil is the highest mountain in Ireland standing at 1,038.6 metres. It is located on the Iveragh Peninsula in County Kerry, close to the centre of Ireland’s highest mountain range, the MacGillycuddy’s Reeks.

The challenge will also support a worthy cause, with participants raising vital funds for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association.
