Bank Of Ireland Munster Senior Challenge Cup Preview

The new season gets underway this weekend with the opening round of games in the Bank of Ireland Munster Senior Challenge Cup.

There are also a handful of games in local competitions in North Munster, South Munster and Kerry.

On Thursday evening, Cashel, who reached the semi-finals while still a Junior Club in 2005, welcome Shannon to the Premier County in the opening round of the Bank of Ireland Munster Senior Cup. The winners will be away to Cork Constitution or UCC, who meet in a Leeside derby at Temple Hill on Saturday.

Old Crescent entertain Nenagh Ormond, whose only triumph to date was in 2025. The winners will be rewarded with a home tie in the quarter finals against 2011 winners Bruff or holders Highfield, who meet at Kilballyowen Park.

Thomond lock horns with Young Munster in a Limerick City derby at Liam Fitzgerald Park. The winners will be away to UL Bohemian, who last won the trophy in 1962, or Midleton, who meet at Annacotty.

On Saturday, Dolphin, whose last triumph was in 1956, host Clonmel at Virgin Media Park. The winners will face Garryowen at Dooradoyle in the quarter finals.

There are two Transfield Cup ties down for decision in North Munster on Sunday.

Newcastle West entertain Bruff at the West Limerick venue. The winners will have home advantage in the quarter finals against Nenagh Ormond.

St Mary’s host Richmond in a local derby at MultiFlow Park. The winners will be at home to Old Crescent or St Senan’s, who meet at Takumi Park on Tuesday evening.

In South Munster, Bantry Bay and Douglas get proceedings underway in the O’Neill Cup at the West Cork venue. The winners will be away to Fermoy in the quarter finals.

There is one game in the Kingdom, which sees Castleisland hosting Killorglin in their McElligott Cup opener.
