Bank Of Ireland Munster Junior Cup Preview

This May weekend see’s the Bank of Ireland Munster Junior Cup decider between holders Cork Constitution and Nenagh Ormond take centre stage in Dooradoyle this Sunday (K.O 3:30pm).

Cork Constitution, who have won the trophy 20 times, are looking to record back-to-back triumphs for the first time since 1994 and 1995.

While the North Tipperary side have won the trophy on five occasions, with their last triumph in 2004.

The only other final between these sides was in 2003, when the Lilywhites defeated Nenagh Ormond 23-13 at what was then Musgrave Park.
This is surprisingly Cork Constitution’s fourteenth time playing a final in Limerick to the thirty three (including replays) played in Cork.

Road To The Final

Both Cork Constitution and Nenagh Ormond were only introduced into the competition from Round Three onwards.

Con kicked off their title defence against Garryowen where they ran out 31-20 winners.

They then faced fellow Cork outfit Muskerry where they once again came out on top with a score of 38-15.

Next up was a trip to Newcastlewest who they overcame 19-49.

This set up a semi final meeting with Cork City side Highfield where they came out on top by the narrowest of margins as the game ended 26-29.

They will now meet Tipperary outfit Nenagh Ormond in the final this Sunday.

Nenagh also got their campaign underway in Round Three as they faced Carrick-on-Suir in their opening fixture. The Tipp side came out on top after 80 minutes with a final score of 3-35.

Next up was a trip to the Kingdom where they faced Killarney. The away side was once again victorious with a final score of 7-17.

Cork side Old Christians were their next opponents which they comfortably overcame 80-10 to send them through to the semi finals where they met Kilfeacle and District. The Tipp natives once came out on top with a final score of 24-43 to set up their final meeting with current titleholders Cork Constitution.
