Eyeing Up Edinburgh

Eyeing Up Edinburgh

Get the pre-match stats as Munster prepare for their first game in Limerick this season, welcoming Edinburgh to Thomond Park on Saturday at 3pm for Round 4 of the Guinness PRO12.

Despite suffering a 27-19 defeat to the men in red on Cork soil last May, the Scotsmen will have fonder memories of their most recent visit to Thomond Park, just shading it on a 13-14 scoreline in the opening round of the 2014/15 campaign.

Of late however, the Irish provinces have had the measure of their Scottish counterparts with Edinburgh not winning on the road in Ireland since a trip to Connacht in January 2015.

With Munster and Edinburgh lying 6th and 8th respectively on the PRO12 table, both sides have scored 6 tries apiece to date, however crucially, Munster have performed better defensively, conceding just 5 tries in comparison to Edinburgh’s 9.  These stats are somewhat reflected in results also, Munster winning two from three with Alan Solomon’s men picking up just one win to date – overcoming Scarlets in Round 2.

Munster have lost only one of their last five PRO12 matches but will have been particularly unhappy to lose on home soil against Cardiff Blues at Irish Independent Park in Round 2.  Chasing his first home win as Munster’s Director of Rugby, Rassie Erasmus will lead Munster in Thomond Park for the first time this weekend, a ground where the Munstermen have not been defeated in 2016.  The last visiting side to win in Limerick were Leinster on December 27th.

Munster v Edinburgh, Guinness PRO12 Round 4, Saturday September 24th at Thomond Park – KO 3pm.

Referee: Ben Whitehouse (WRU, 28th competition game)
Assistant Referees: Gwyn Morris (WRU), Mark Patton (IRFU)
Citing Commissioner: Eddie Wigglesworth (IRFU)
TMO: Jon Mason (WRU)
