Carreras & Jenkins To Play Irish Independent Park

The world famous José Carreras and Katherine Jenkins are to play a spectacular Midsummer’s Double Bill at Irish Independent Park next June.

The City of Cork Symphony Orchestra confirmed the artists will perform at a fully-seated concert at Irish Independent Park on 20th June 2015. Tickets go on sale today (Monday, November 10th).

It will be the first ever performance in Cork by legendary tenor José Carreras while Katherine Jenkins returns to the city following her sell out shows in City Hall in 2013 where she proved an enormous hit with audiences across all genres and age groups.

The move builds and grows from the hugely successful Il Divo concert in the same venue last summer. A spokesman for the City of Cork Symphony Orchestra said: “Midsummer Night at Irish Independent Park in 2014 was an incredible night for Cork. Next year, we are bringing to Cork not just one international superstar, but two, in what will be a fantastic concert from both stars.

“The opportunity to see José and Katherine singing together is unique and we expect huge demand for tickets not just from Ireland but from abroad also.”

Legendary tenor José Carreras said: “I am thrilled to come to Cork and perform in this unmatched atmosphere. The program will contain great music from Opera, Operetta, Musical and song in an evening to remember!

“Katherine is a beautiful lady a wonderful singer and a very nice colleague. I am very much looking forward to performing with her again. Apart from our solo pieces we will also perform some wonderful duets like the drinking song from “La Traviata”.

Welsh superstar Jenkins said she is delighted to return to Cork. “The audiences at City Hall were amazing last time I performed there. To return to sing at a concert of this scale and with José is something I’m really looking forward to and is the only way to better the last time I visited Cork!”

Arrangements have also been made to repeat the very popular free city centre bus shuttle service to and from the venue. Bars inside the venue will close during the set in a change from the Il Divo concert and a major sound system reconfiguration will improve the quality of sound for concert goers.

Tickets for this extravaganza go on sale today (Monday, November 10th) and are available from €;45 online here and from Pro Musica, Oliver Plunkett Street Cork.

It is expected that these tickets will be snapped up quickly in the Christmas market so book early to avoid disappointment.
