Foley Rallies Support For Ospreys Clash

Head Coach Anthony Foley looks ahead to Saturday’s Guinness PRO12 clash against Ospreys and calls on supporters to create a fortress at Thomond Park.

The Welsh outfit come to Thomond Park topping the table and still undefeated in this season’s PRO12. With the best attacking and defensive record of this season also, Foley is well aware of the threat Ospreys pose both up front and out wide.

“Ospreys are a good side who are well coached and they’ll come here with a lot of confidence. To put 62 points on Edinburgh is no mean feat and it shows that they will take every opportunity that comes their way. They have an excellent kicker in Dan Biggar, and Rhys Webb at scrum half is causing all sorts of trouble for teams at the moment.

“Those half backs are only allowed to play because their pack is so dominant so we’ll have our hands full at the weekend. It’s going to be a tough affair up front and it’s important that we get the edge there.

“With Ospreys so far this season there are a lot of penalties and resets of scrums so we need to make sure we don’t come out worse off on that font. They are also very disruptive at line out time. They will look to get in amongst us as you would expect so we have to get our heads around that.”

Last weekend against Zebre the Head Coach was happy with Munster’s use of the ball, keeping it tight where necessary and spreading it wide when appropriate.

“It’s about proper use of ball more than being flippant with it. We’ve got to protect it and get it into areas where we can cross the gain line and win the advantage over the opposition. There’s no point in taking it into hard areas every time so when the opportunity presents itself we’ve enough good players and enough guile to execute those opportunities.”

From his time as a player, Foley knows first-hand the importance home support in driving Munster on to success and has called on fans to play their part this weekend and across the season at Thomond Park.

“It’s important that people come out and create a good home atmosphere. We need the support if we are to go anywhere in the competition, we need to make Thomond Park a fortress. We’ll do our best on the pitch but we need people to come out and support us as well.”

Munster v Ospreys, Guinness PRO12 Round 4, Saturday September 27th, Thomond Park. KO 6:30pm.
