Both the North and South Munster Schools U17 Development squads played an end of summer challenge game on Tuesday last on completion of their eight week summer development programme.

Both squads had been taking part in two training sessions a week, comprising of physical and technical development, and rugby education.

The players, who were nominated by their schools to participate, attended their respective sessions in either Castletroy College in Limerick or CIT in Cork. Munster Rugby Coach Development Officers John Lacey and Keith Murphy each co-ordinated the regional programmes.

The game was tightly contested and very entertaining with free flowing rugby on display. The squad from North Munster won by a try and credit has to go to both teams for producing a great game of rugby.

The summer programme mainly identified individual technical skill development and the final challenge game offered players the chance to showcase their improved skill set.

The South Munster squad finished their programme with a game on Friday last against the new U17 Combined Schools squad and they came out on top in a tough and challenging encounter. The game also acted as a warm up game for the Combined squad who are preparing themselves for fixtures at the end of the month against Connacht Under 17s.

The schools development players are straight back into competitive mode as most will be lining out for their respective schools in the Bowen Shield competition which commences shortly.
