UCC Reach College League Final

UCC Ladies proved their intent once again with a comprehensive victory over Waterford IT on Thursday 21st Feb.

It was indeed a match of two halves with College racking up a substantial lead in the first 35 mins. Scores mostly came from the back line, but only as a result of the quick ruck ball and support play of the pack. The first half saw tries from centre Aoife Deasy, who powered her way over the line, breaking tackles as she went. Two tries came from full back, Tamar Jayawardene who scored both times from set play. Winger Lucy Barry touched down out wide following quick ruck ball. Outhalf Clare Rigney also touched down following a kick downfield. The only forward to score on the day was Orlagh Ryan, who spotted a gap at the breakdown and took full advantage as she trundled her way over the line. Amy Smyth was in fine form with her kicking as she converted four of six. The half time score; UCC 38- WIT 0.

WIT emerged an entirely different team after the break. The managed to retain the majority of the possession in this half and got the backline moving very well. They spread the ball well and UCC really felt the pressure when they did this. Despite there domination in the second half they only managed to score three tries, of which none were converted. Leaving the final score 38-15 to UCC.

UCC Ladies now face Garda College in the final. The details of which are yet to be confirmed. UCC will begin preparations for the final in training next week, but for the moment, they will enjoy their achievements to date.
