Munster Rugby Golf Classic

The fifth annual Munster Rugby Golf Classic took place at Fota Island Golf Club. Last year s winners South East Scaffolding once again took the top prize, finishing six points clear.

Fota Island Golf Club in Cork was the venue for the fifth annual Munster Rugby Golf Classic. In all, 44 teams of three took place throughout the day in perfect conditions, and it was last year s winners South East Scaffolding once again took the top prize. The team of John Ryan, Vincent Woodlock and John Lonergan completed the course with 58 points, six points clear of second placed team Whelan s Contracts Ltd in Glanmire consisting of Ed Ryan, Andrew Donovan and John McGeogh. Winning teams were presented with their prizes at a dinner held in the Clubhouse in the evening, with the prizes kindly sponsored by Heineken Ireland. A number of other prizes were also awarded to a number of competitors, including Jim Redmond for the nearest pin won on the 13th hole. Paddy Baird had the longest drive on the 16th hole and Eoin O Siochru got the only hole in one of the day on the 17th hole. Toyota Ireland offered a new Toyota Yaris to the first competitor to get a hole in one on the 13th hole, however, no player was successful. A number of Munster players came to offer their support to the venture, including Peter Stringer, Frankie Sheahan, Mick O Driscoll, Denis Leamy, Anthony Horgan and Christian Cullen.

Also launched on the night was Munster Sports Travel, a joint venture between Killester Travel and Munster Rugby. Munster Sports Travel is now the Official Tour Operator for Munster Rugby and will be offering Supporter Tours to all the main rugby fixtures. Golf will also feature strongly, drawing on the experience of its sister company Sean Skehan World of Golf offering quality golf tours all over the world. MST will also be offering trips to FIFA World Cup fixtures and other main sporting events. For a draw organised on the night, Munster Sports Travel donated a golfing holiday for two to Montegordo, Algarve, Portugal taking in Quinta da Cima and Quinta da Ria golf courses, won by Danny Leen from Ardfert, Co. Kerry. A member of Tralee Golf Club Danny is based in Eden Hall Developments at redevelopment of Tennis Village. A second Prize of two Stand Season tickets for Munster s ten home games in the Celtic League 2005/6 was won by Michael Collopy (Sunday s Well RFC).
