Whose Game Plan

Whose Game Plan

Paddy Baker a Munster supporter living in Dublin writes.

I came away from Thomond Park last Sunday night, happy enough of course that Munster had won but disappointed with the overall display.

Once again I thought I d seen a mediocre enough team give our lads a real good run for their money. And even when we scored that third try, I thought the chances of a fourth were slim.

In fact when they kicked the penalty to go 25-19 there was a scary moment after, when they ran from their own 22 and for an awful moment the prospect of them snatching a late victory seemed possible.

See the worrying thing is that there is a consistency developed in the side s performance that goes back to the Leinster game in Cork. It s consistently mediocre.

That night in Musgrave Park, I recall Munster dominating for 90% of the game but Leinster almost coming back at the death.

That night the pack dominated and choked the life out of Leinster and in my view Munster played a fairly conservative or what might be called a typical Munster game .

Then we come along to the game against Harlequins and we were all over the shop. Forwards out among the backs and we start this crack of running ball from our own 22.

But in both those games our pack dug us out of trouble and then you come to the Llanelli and Glasgow games and what happens ? We start playing Ba Ba s rugby.

And yes some of it looked good but for God s sake there is no way we should have left Stradey without at least, the very least, a bonus point.

And after 20 minutes on Sunday we re 16-3 down and again we gave away another bonus. We did the same in Twickenham albeit against a Quins side that probably didn t get the credit they deserved.

So what has to be asked what s the game plan? Is there one ? I don t mean to be having a go but from where I m sitting Munster don t seem to know what sort of game they want to play

I know the game I think they should play, but so what. But again I ask what is the game plan and please can we go back to the old way. Before it s too late.
