Young Munster win ODM Munster Senior Cup

17th April 2010 By Munster Rugby

Young Munster won their seventh ODM Munster Senior Cup title and their first at Musgrave Park with a deserved victory over U.C.C.

U.C.C. 13, Young Munster 22

This was “The Cookies” third victory over the College this season but this time the result was more convincing than the two narrow victories in the league.

It was the boot of Alan Kingsley that proved the difference as he contributed seventeen points of the Young Munster total.

Kingsley opened the scoring with a drop goal after five minutes but Andrew Burke put the students ahead with a try and conversion five minutes later.

Two penalties by Kingsley to one by Burke left the students10-9 in front at half time.

Kingsley kicked his third penalty four minutes after the break to put the Limerick side ahead but Brian Derham who took over the kicking duties for the injured Andrew Burke restored the students’ one point advantage with a penalty after fifty six minutes.

Munsters dominated the final quarter and a fourth penalty from Kingsley and a conversion of a try by skipper Ger Slattery seven minutes from time ended the Limerick sides’ twenty year wait to bring the famous trophy back to Clifford Park.
