The newest addition to the regional Zara Horan Trophy competition, West Cork, took the spoils in Virgin Media Park this afternoon as they overcame North Munster 46-12.
The side, made up of an amalgamation of clubs in the West Cork region, scored a total of eight tries to clinch the silverware.
Seren Lehane was first to cross the line after an over thrown North Munster line-out was caught by the West Cork out-half and passed wide allowing the full back to run in.
Lehane was in for a second just 10 minutes later as she ran in in the 16th minute with out half Jo McCaughey adding the extras.
Next to barrel over was Sadhbh Brennan, the strong number eight, in the 23rd minute with McCaughey’s conversion dropping just short of the posts.
Brennan had the chance to add to her tally as she crashed over for her second in the 29th minute.
West Cork were over again just before the half as captain Clodagh McCarthy crossed the whitewash to bring the score at half time to 29-0.
The newcomers were first to get scores on the board in the second half after an intercept try from inside centre Alice O’Donovan. McCaughey added the extra two as her conversion sliced the uprights.
Keelin McCarthy was next to run in as she scored the side’s seventh try as McCaughey’s kick once again dropped just short.
Replacement Richelle Kingston scored the sides final points of the game as she ran in in the 63rd minute.
North Munster never backed down throughout the game and were finally rewarded in the closing stages.
North Munster captain Eliza Wiley-Murphy crossed the whitewash in the 66th minute to put the sides first points on the board. Olivia McMahon added the extras.
Cate Foley was next to touch down for the side as she crossed over just before the whistle to bring the final score to 46-12.
The Zara Horan Trophy will be making the trip south west for the first time after a successful second installment of the development competition.
