Crosshaven clinched promotion to Division 1 of the Munster Junior League, as the relegation battle in the top two Divisions goes down to the wire.
In Division 1, Skibbereen did their chances of avoiding the drop from the top tier, with an emphatic 31-10 home win over Mallow. David Shannon scored two tries and three conversions for the home side and Jonathan Benn, Oisin Dinan and Donnacha Maguire got a try each. Sam Glynn and John Forrest replied with tries for Mallow.
Kilfeacle collected their second piece of silverware in two weeks, as they defeated Thurles in their outstanding league game, that also doubled up as a Garryowen Cup Final. Ben Farrelly, Luke Heuston, Jamie Heuston, Gavin Heuston and Keith Bourke scored tries for Kilfeacle and Luke Heuston kicked a conversion and a penalty. Paddy McGrath replied with two tries for Thurles and Jock Fogarty got one. Fionn Fogarty kicked three conversions and two penalties to secure Thurles a losing bonus point, that moves them out of the relegation zone, a point above Clanwilliam.
Crosshaven moved back to the top of the Second Division, following their 34-5 home win against St. Senans, a result that ended the Clare’s side hopes of promotion. Jack O’Connell got two tries and two conversions for the winners, and Killian Twomey, Patrick Cotter, Liam Cotter and Anthony Sheehan got one each. Fergal Lawlor replied with a try for Senan’s.
Fethard still remain in the second relegation place, despite their 32-24 home win against Charleville. Sean Prendergast, Ritchie Anglim, Peter Wall and Will Ruttle scored tries for Fethard and Wall kicked two penalties and three conversions. Charleville replied with three tries from Jessie Smith and one by Matty O’Neill. Kian Smith kicked two conversions.
Castleisland defeated Youghal 15-13 to remain three points above the relegation zone. Kevin Lenihan and Calvin Swords scored tries for the Kerry side and Joe Sheehy kicked a penalty and a conversion. Youghal were awarded a penalty try and Nathan O’Halloran kicked two penalties.
Balincollig defeated already relegated Abbeyfeale 90-8. Michael O’Shea, Diarmuid Phelan and Adam Dodd each scored two tries for the winners, and John Hogan, Eoin Sweeney, Darragh O’Shea, Rob Fookes, James Mclinchey, Denis Kiely, Oisin Moran and Louis Herdman got a try each. Dodd kicked ten conversions. Jimmy Kelly scored Abbeyfeale’s try and Jack O’Sullivan kicked a penalty.
In the Third Division, Douglas ended their campaign with a 47-24 win against already promoted Tralee. Tom Roche, Liam O’Flynn, Shane McGuinness (2), Patrick Carey, Tiernan Hegarty and Zack Dinan were the Douglas try scorers, with Carey kicking six conversions. Gavin Peevers, Craig Teahan, Fionn de Quadros and Leon Tanafin were the Tralee try scorers and Peevers kicked two conversions.
Richmond qualified for the semi-final of the Junior Clubs Challenge Cup and a home tie against Bandon, after they came from 10-0 down, to defeat Newcastle West 13-10. Newcastle West raced into a 10-0 lead with a try from Sean Darcy and a conversion and a penalty by James Guinea. The home side hit back with a try by Lee Bennett and a conversion and two penalties by Shane Purcell.
Killorglin knocked out holders Corca Dhuibhne out of the Martin O’Sullivan Cup with a 24-22 home victory. Ronan O’Shea and Stephen Cotter scored tries for Killorglin and Luke O’Shea kicked four penalties and a conversion. Gearoid Walsh replied with two tries for Corca Dhuibhne and Eoin Ó Súilleabháin got one. Seamus Ó Muircheartaigh kicked two conversions and a penalty. Killorglin’s reward is a home semi-final against Tralee.
Killarney booked their place in the final with a 22-17 away win at Waterford City. Padraig Talbot, Tomas Clifford and Paul O Sullivan scored tries for Killarney and Donnchadh Grealy added two conversions and a penalty.
Nenagh Ormond claimed the Limerick Charity Cup with a 36-14 win over Garryowen at Dooradoyle. Matthew Hodgins, Conor O’Shaughnessy, Brehon O’Donnell, Brian O’Rourke, Kieran Kennedy and Shane O’Brien scored tries for Nenagh. Conor O’Brien kicked three conversions.
Highfield were crowned Cork Charity Cup winners, after they defeated holders Cork Constitution 17-13 after extra time in the final at Virgin Media Park. The sides were level 10-10 after eighty minutes. Jack Kevane and Colin O’Neill scored tries for Highfield and Ronan O’Keeffe kicked two conversions and a penalty.
