U.L. Bohemian remain unbeaten in the Women’s All Ireland League as Ennis suffered their first defeat, while the opening games in the Junior Clubs Cup competitions got underway.
U.L. Bohemian remain in second place a point behind leaders Galwegians in the Women’s Energia All Ireland League after a convincing 36-0 win against Old Belvedere at Annacotty.
Alana McInerney scored two of the winners tries, and Aoife Corey, Eilis Cahill, Chloe Pearse and Ava O’Malley got one each. Kate Flannery kicked three conversions.
Ennis suffered their first defeat of the campaign after they lost 33-12 away to Wicklow. The Clare side led 12-5 at the interval, with two tries from Aoibheann Hahessy and a conversion by Emma Keane.
Ballincollig picked up their first victory with a 31-10 bonus point home win over Cooke. Awatere McLean-Wanoa scored two tries for the home side, and Eve Prendergast, Aoife Madigan and Vicky Good got one each. Emma Connolly kicked three conversions.
Richmond proved too strong for Old Christians at Canal Bank in the Munster Clubs Junior Challenge Cup winning 45-10. Stephen Purcell scored two tries and five conversions, with Ben Gallagher chipping in with two tries and Ger Barry, Jason Murray and Paul O’Shea chipped in with a try each. James Clifford and Oscar Clarke replied with tries for the visitors.
Newcastle West etched out an 18-17 win in Skibbereen with tries from Andrew Mortell and James Guina. Brodie Hitchman kicked two penalties and a conversion. Oisin Dinan, Conan Farrell and Dave Shannon scored tries for Skibb’ and Will Canavan kicked one conversion.
Carrick-on-Suir caused the shock of the day in the Junior Clubs Shield with a 34-19 away win at Waterpark. Jack O’Connell, Shane Fitzgibbon, Darragh Anthony and Oscar Geoghan scored tries for Carrick’ who led 25-0 at the interval. Fionn Barry kicked three conversions and two penalties. Like Murphy, Ryan Jenkins and Greg Staff replied with tries for Waterpark and Dermot Lannen kicked two conversions
Crosshaven advanced to the quarter finals and a home tie against Carrick-on-Suir, after a 24-17 home win over Cobh Pirates. Cobh raced into a 10-0 lead with a try from Cian McNamara and a conversion and a penalty by Mike White. Tries from Ronan O’Donoghue, Fionn O’Donovan, Eoin Dalton and Gary Fitzgibbon, along with two conversions from Mikey Collins gave Crosshaven the victory. Josh Crone scored a late try for the Pirates which White conversed.
Kinsale recorded a 40-17 away win at St. Senan’s to book a home quarter final. Matty O’Donovan, Erhan Farley and Andrew Kelly each scored two tries. Robin O’Flynn and David Evans each kicked two conversions and Johny Walsh one. Jamie McNamara and Shane Kelly scored tries for Senan’s and Declan Rowe added two conversions and a penalty.
Killarney ended Douglas’ recent good run with a 57-19 win in the Matin O’Sullivan Cup at Castletreasure. Finn Kennelly scored three tries for the winners, Aidan Walsh and Diarmuid Carr got two apiece. Padraic Talbot and Danny Wilson got one each. Ciarán O’Brien kicked two conversions and two penalties, with Harry Kelly also kicked a conversion. Zach Dinan replied with two tries for Douglas and Patrick Carey added a try and two conversions.
Waterford City defeated Galbally-Mitchelstown with a 25-10 home victory. Matt Garvey, Darren Kenneally and Ethan Sullivan were Waterford’s try scorers. Mikey O’Connor kicked two conversions and two penalties. Peter O’Dwyer and Graham Bourke were the try scorers for Galbally-Mitchelstown and Bouke added one conversion.
