Weekend Roundup

No major shocks in the various Junior Cup competitions.

In the only Ulster Bank League game involving Munster clubs this weekend, a powerful display by the Nenagh Ormond pack laid the foundation for their 20-0 home win over UCC in Division 2A.
Peter O’Connor, Derek Corcoran and Eathon Moloney were try scorers for the Tipperary side and John Healy kicked a conversion and penalty.

Clonmel began their defence of the Munster Junior Clubs Challenge Cup with a 34-20 home win over Old Christians.
The home side did the damage in the opening half with tries from Billy O’Kelly, Conor Tobin and Alex Sheehan. Dylan Cadogan kicked two conversions and a penalty for a 22-6 half time lead. Sean Meany replied with two penalties for Old Christians.
Second half tries from Danny Lyons and Greg Carroll and a conversion by Conor Cooney ensured victory for Clonmel. Old Christians replied with tries from Kevin Walsh and Dave O’Driscoll which Meany converted.

St. Mary’s defeated a weakened Newcastle West side 35-3.
Conor Whelan kicked an early penalty for Newcastle West but Mary’s hit back with tries from Matthew Hickey, Sean Duffy, Niall McNamara and Barry Kelly. Sean Lyons kicked three penalties and three conversions.

Richmond defeated Clonakilty 30-5. Jeff McNamara, Keelan Stephenson and Michael Kelleher scored tries for Richmond and Brian Mullins kicked three conversions and three penalties. Josh Wilcox replied with a try for Clonakilty.

St Senan’s travelled to Bandon and defeated the home side 19-10 with tries from MJ McDonogh and Brian Collins. Declan Rowe kicked three penalties. Gearoid Crowley was Bandon’s try scorer and Richard Walsh converted and also added a penalty.

Galbally had their first win of the season with a 13-3 home win over Waterpark. Oisin Walsh and Mark Sweeney scored tries for Galbally and Jack O’Mullane kicked a penalty. Geoff Deegan replied with a penalty for Clonmel.

In the Munster Junior Clubs Challenge Shield Kinsale recorded a 29-14 away win over Charleville. Fergus Gimblett scored two tries for Kinsale and Sean Kingston and Damian Kozik also got tries and Kingston kicked three conversions and a penalty. Kieran O’Connell was Charleville’s try scorer and Damian Leahy kicked three penalties.

Ballincollig continued their good run with a 22-17 away win at Ennis. Kevin Doyle scored two tries for the winners and Charlie Bland kicked four penalties. Ennis replied with tries from Paul Finucane and Cian Guilfoyle and they were also awarded a penalty try.

Presentation defeated Tralee 26-18 with tries from Noel Forde and Alan Airy. Craig Airy converted both and also added three penalties. Sean O’Brien kicked a drop goal. Jamie Byrne and Ben O’Neill replied with tries for Tralee and O’Neill converted both and added a penalty.

Thurles defeated Waterford City 32-27. Cian Foskin, Aidan Power, Simon O’Hara and Michael Hayes were Waterford’s try scorers and Hayes kicked two conversions and a penalty.

In the Martin O’Sullivan Cup Killarney and Killorglin had away victories.

Killorglin travelled to Scariff and defeated the home side 27-18 with tries from Tony Lynch, Rodi Healy and Liam Griffin. Luke O’Shea kicked two penalties and three conversions. Ger Burke, Michael Noonan and Colin Bugler replied with tries for Scariff and Conor Moloney kicked a penalty.

Killarney were 21-13 winners over Carrick-on-Suir. Colin McCarthy, Brian O’Sullivan and Paul O’Sullivan scored tries for the Kerry side and Chris Myers converted all three. Adam O’Loughlin and James Wallace scored tries for Carrick’ and Michael Dineen kicked a penalty.

Tries from Michael Boland and Lee McSherry and a Bobby Smith penalty helped U.C.C. to a 13-13 draw with Shannon in the opening round of the Dave Walsh Trophy.

Highfield defeated Dolphin 34-33 in the Junior 2 League South. Colm Gallagher, Ben Glavin, Dave Norris, Ger Arthurs and Shane Cox were Highfield’s try scorers. Darragh O’Keeffe kicked three conversions and a penalty.
