It was a bad day for Munster sides in the Men’s All Ireland League, with only six of the fifteen sides claiming a victory.
A late fight back from Young Munster saw them claim two points as they lost 40-35 at home to Lansdowne. Two late tries from Orin Burke and Arron Roulston and both converted by Kelvin Langan, saved the home side a heavy defeat. Hubert Gilvarry, Liam McMahon and Burke were Munster’s other try scorers. Shane O’Leary added two conversions and Langan one.
Cork Constitution suffered a surprisingly home defeat, when they lost to Ballynahinch 25-12. Peter Hyland and Jack Kelleher scored tries for the Temple Hill side and Darragh French added a conversion.
Nenagh Ormond are still pointless after they lost 40-12 away to Terenure College. Joe Coffey and Conor McMahon were Nenagh’s try scorers and McMahon converted his own try.
In Division 1B, Garryowen’s recent god run ended at Stradbrook, where they lost 18-15 to Blackrock College. JJ O’Neill and Tom Woods scored tries for the Limerick side and Woods added a conversion and a penalty.
A poor start cost Highfield dearly as they lost away to Naas 19-14. James Cronin scored a try for Highfield which Shane O’Riordan converted and they were also awarded a penalty try.
U.C.C. are now at the foot of the table after their 24-7 defeat by Dublin University at the Mardyke. Chriss Barrett was College’s try scorer and Harry Murphy converted.
In Division 2A, Cashel got back to winning ways with a 24-14 away win at Banbridge. John O’Sullivan, Alan Flannery and Tim Townsend scored tries for Cashel and O’Sullivan kicked three conversions and a penalty.
Shannon lost away to Dungannon 22-14. Jordan Prenderville scored a try for Shannon and Jamie Gavin kicked three penalties.
Old Crescent lost away to M.U. Barnhall 10-7. John Toland scored Old Crescent’s try and Jeff Williams converted.
U.L. Bohemian picked up maximum points with a 53-17 home win over Rainey in Division 2B. Donnacha O’Callaghan scored three tries for the winners, and Sean Quirke, Simon Staunton, Killian Dineen, Paul Clancy and Joe Johnson were the other try scorers. Oisin Fagan kicked five conversions and a penalty.
Thomond remain top of Division 2C after they recorded another 35-25 maximum point victory away at Malahide. Evan Maher scored three of Thomond’s five tries, with Colin Slater and Ryan Aherne getting one each, Evan Cusack kicked two penalties and two conversions.
Clonmel have moved up to second place after their 42-12 away win against Belfast Harlequins. Keith Melbourne, Diarmuid Brannock, Josef O’Connor, Freddie Davies, Brandon Delicato and Liam Ryan were the Clonmel try scorers. O’Connor kicked six conversions.
Dolphin defeated Midleton 26-19 in their local derby at Virgin Media Park. Karl Waterman, Max Abbott, James Vaughan and Darragh O’Sullivan were the Dolphin try scorers and Billy Kiernan added three conversions. Ryan Lehane scored a try for Midleton, and they were also awarded two penalty tries.
Bruff suffered a 37-7 away defeat at Ballyclare. Cillian Rea was Bruff’s try scorer and Paul Collins converted.
In the Women’s All Ireland League, Champions U.L. Bohemian made the short trip to Clare and recorded a 77-0 victory over Ennis. Alana McInerney scored four of U.L. Bohs thirteen tries, Éabha Nic Dhonnacha got three, and Clodagh O’Halloran, Catriona Finn, Aoife Corey, Beth Buttimer, Kate Flannery and Louise Carter got one each. Finn kicked six conversions.
Blackrock College defeated Ballincollig 60-14. Eve Prendergast and Grace Kingston scored tries for Ballincollig and both were converted by Fia Whelan.
St. Mary’s were the only Munster side to advance to the quarter finals of the Energia All Ireland Junior Cup, following their 36-12 win against Castlebar at MultiFlow Park. James O’Brien scored two of the Saints five tries and Cian Clohessy, Adam Guerin and Ross Kelly were the other try scorers. Guerin kicked four conversions and a penalty.
Kilfeacle suffered their first defeat of the season, when they lost 25-15 away to Creggs. Danny Lambe and Muiri Lambe scored tries for Kilfeacle and Luke Heuston added a conversion and a penalty.
Muskerry lost 26-11 away to Wicklow, in their first appearance in this competition. Frankie Horgan scored a try for Muskerry and Robert Cahill added two penalties.
A try by Conor Walsh was not enough for Bandon, who lost at home to Dromore 26-5.
In the only game played in the Junior League, the promoted clubs from the Third division last year, saw Youghal defeat Carrick-on-Suir in an eight-try thriller at Youghal 35-34 in Division 2. Darragh Coleman with two tries and one each by Scott O’Sullivan and Sean O’Riordan were Youghal’s try scorers. Nathan O’Halloran kicked three conversions and three penalties. Carrick’ replied with tries from Jack Boylan, Shane Fitzgibbon, Matthew O’Toole and Braedon Wheeler. Fionn Barry converted all four tries and added two penalties.
