The Munster Rugby Excellence Camps took place from 16th – 27th of June in locations across the province.

The camps offered a premium rugby experience for children aged 13-16 and players took part in a week-long structured rugby development programme which included core skill development, game understanding, position-specific training, appropriate strength and conditioning training and teamwork.

We caught up with Rugby Participation Officer Joe Sheehan at last week’s camp in MTU Cork

Speaking about the opportunity this camp gives young players Sheehan said:

“It is a good opportunity for the lads because they are getting exposed to us, getting exposed to Munster coaches and they are getting exposed to what we are looking for out of young players at this stage which is really good for them.”

“It is also really good for us to see them play as well and see what their standard is.”

“What we hope is that they improve their skills across the board so that they can bring it back to their clubs and then hopefully impart some of that wisdom onto their own teammates back at their clubs.”

As well as expert coaching players also attended talks on topics such as mindset and nutrition.
