Victories for Ardscoil & PBC In Bowen Shield

The semi final lineup for next week’s Bowen Shield was decided today but until the outcome of an objection by CBC as to which schools finished first and second is decided the pairings for next week’s semi final will not be known.

St. Munchin’s and Ardscoil Ris played out a 10-10 draw at Corbally in the quarter final of the Bowen Shield but it is the visitors who qualified for the semi finals on the first try rule. Kelvin Browne scored the all important try for Ardscoil and David O’Mahony converted and also added a penalty. Shane Halpin replied with a try for Munchin’s and Peter Meyer added a conversion and a penalty.

It was a lot clearer in the other quarter-final tie as PBC defeated St. Clement’s 31-3 at Wilton. Jack Broderick opened the scoring with a penalty for Clements but two tries by Paul Kiernan and a conversion by Robin Reidy made it 12-3 to Pres’ at half time. Kiernan ran in two more tries after the break and Darragh Dennehy one with Reidy converting two of them.

Castletroy booked their place in the semi final of the McCarthy Cup after a 27-7 victory over Bandon Grammar at the U.L. complex. Shane Mullins, Luca Ridder and Darragh O’Neill scored tries for Castletroy and Bandon replied with a try by Travis Cooney which Sean Hudson converted.

Castletroy will be away to PBC in next week’s semi final and CBC will host the winners of next Friday’s tie between St. Munchin’s and Crescent Comp.
