Garryowen caused big shock in Division 1A as Cork Constitution clinched a home semi final tie in the Ulster Bank League.

Garryowen defeated leaders Old Belvedere 12-4 at Dooradoyle in Division 1A to move off the foot of the table. The home side led 7-3 at the interval with Declan Cusack being their hero with a try, conversion and two penalties. Conal Keane replied with a penalty for ‘Belvo’.

Cork Constitution moved back to the top of the table at Templeville Road with a 22-0 win over St. Mary’s College, a result that could cause the Dublin side to miss promotion. A Cyprian Jouve try and a conversion and penalty by Gerry Hurley had the visitors 10-0 ahead at half time. Simon Zebo scored two tries after the break and Hurley converted one.

Shannon are now in bottom place after they lost to Blackrock College 25-21 at Stradbrook. The home side led 22-6 at half time but a spirited second half revival was not enough to secure victory for the Limerick side. Luke O’Dea and Duncan Casey scored tries for Shannon and Mossie Lawlor kicked three penalties and a conversion.

U.L. Bohemian caused a surprise at Castle Avenue with a 20-15 victory over leaders Clontarf in Division 1B. The losing bonus point was enough to secure Clontarf a semi final place. U.L. trailed 15-7 at half time and had tries from David Moloney, Darren Moroney and Ed Torrie. JJ Hanrahan kicked a conversion and penalty.

U.C.C. who raced into an early 10-0 lead at home to Galwegians are still not clear of relegation after their 21-10 defeat at the Mardyke. Andrew Cudmore scored a try for the students and Johnny Holland kicked a conversion and penalty.

Bruff who were challenging for promotion a few weeks ago are not in bottom spot after their 26-17 home defeat by Lansdowne. An Alan Bourke try and conversion and penalty by Paul O’Brien left the Kilballyowen side trailing 21-10 at the interval. O’Brien added a try and conversion in the second half but it was not enough to deny the visitors the points.

Midleton’s hopes of a play off place in Division Two ended at The Vale as Clonakilty defeated them 20-13. Clonakilty have secured their Division Two status with this win led 10-7 at half time with a try by David Pirini and a conversion and penalty by Denis McCarthy. Troy Smith scored a try for the East Cork side and Jeff Hitchmough kicked a conversion. Joe Knowles added a try after the break and McCarthy converted and also added a penalty. Midleton’s only reply were two penalties from Hitchmough.

Old Crescent are just a point ahead of bottom side Thomond and their meeting next week at Rosbrien could have a big bearing on who will be in the relegation play off. Old Crescent traveled to second placed Ballynahinch and lost 48-17. Keith Lyons scored Crescent’s try and Darragh Fitzgerald kicked three penalties and a drop goal.

Thomond entertained leaders U.C.D. at Fitzgerald Park and the home side went down 34-12. Brian Buckley and Henry O’Neill scored tries for the home side and Kevin O’Mahony kicked a conversion.

Nenagh Ormond kept their faint hopes of a play off place alive in Division Three with a 35-16 away win over bottom side Connemara. Stephen Carey scored three tries for the home side and Shane Quinlan and James Kingston got one each. Donal Fogarty kicked two conversions and two penalties.

A try by Willie Devane and a conversion and three penalties by Danny O’Shea was not enough for Sunday’s Well who lost at home to Rainey Old Boys 27-16.

The Banbridge v Highfield game was postponed as a result of a military funeral in the town which resulted in several roads being closed.
