Both Christian Brothers College and St. Munchin’s College will have to meet again to decide the destination of the Munster Schools Junior Cup, after their encounter at Virgin Media Park finished level 12-12 in a hectic final.

The replay will be played after Easter and date; time and venue will be confirmed in the coming days.

Despite playing into a strong wind in the opening half, it was Christians who made the brighter start when winger Jack Singleton touched down in the corner having been put in by Tiernan Murphy after five minutes.

Munchin’s pack began to dominate and had Christians on the back foot but could not turn the possession into scores.

A break by Shea Lynch sent Rory Barry in for Christians second try on eleven minutes and Lynch added the extras for a 12-0 lead.

With Munchin’s forwards on top some big hits by the Christians defence held them out.

Eventually on twenty minutes, the Limerick side opened their account, when from a line-out on the Twenty-Two, Munchin’s mauled the ball over the line and Caleb Crofton O’Riordan touched down.

Rory Barry taught he was in for Christians third try, but lost possession of the ball over the line.

Christians looked in a strong position at half time as they led 12-5 and a strong wind in their favour in the second half.

Munchin’s continued to press after the break, with Cian Angley and Paraic Landers making strong breaks, but knock-ons proved costly.

Lynch relieved the pressure with some fine kicks out of defence for Christians.

The game turned in Munchin’s favour when Christians were reduced to fourteen, when Tommy Kiely was shown a yellow card.

After several penalties and mauls, Dara Giltinane barged over the line to touch down, and Jack Goode converted to tie the scores 12-12, with six minutes remaining.

Both sides tried to score a winner in the remaining time, but another meeting will have to decide whose name will be on the trophy in 2026.

Replay details will be confirmed in due course.
