Pinergy Munster Schools Boys Senior Cup State Of Play

The Pinergy Munster Schools Boys Senior Cup competition is well underway with two games remaining in the group stage and a further two remaining in the qualifier competition.
This year sees Presentation Brothers College, Rockwell College, Glenstal Abbey, St. Munchins College and Castletroy College occupy Group A.
While Group B sees Crescent College Comprehensive, Bandon Grammar School, Christian Brothers College, Ardscoil Rís and Munster Club Select Programme all take part.
Presentation Brothers College
PBC currently hold the top spot in Group A with 15 points after three dominant wins.
Their first victory of the competition came on the 8th of October as they defeated St. Munchins 64-0 in Wilton.
Next up was a trip to Tipperary to face Rockwell College where the Cork side ran out 17-50 winners.
Their penultimate game of the group was against Castletroy College as they hit the road once more. The away side once again came out on top with a score of 5-26.
PBC will finish out their group stage journey by welcoming third placed Glenstal Abbey to Wilton this afternoon.
Rockwell College
Rockwell College sit in second place in this year’s Group A table with two wins, two losses and a total of 11 points.
The Tipperary side kicked off this year’s competition with their clash against Castletroy College. After an end-to-end game the home side ran out as winners with a score of 30-22.
Next up for the Tipp natives was table toppers Presentation Brothers College. The Cork side proved to be too strong for Rockwell as they recorded a 17-50 win.
A trip to Limerick was up next as they travelled to face Glenstal Abbey. It was yet another close encounter with both sides scoring four tries a piece. But it was Rockwell that came out on a top with a score line of 24-28.
Their final game of the group saw the side make the trip to Corbally to face St. Munchins College. The home side ran out winners on the day with a final score of 19-14.
Glenstal Abbey
Glenstal occupy the third spot in the table and are currently level on points with Rockwell College with a game in hand.
The Limerick side kicked off their campaign with a 32-26 win over St. Munchins College.
A tough battle with Tipperary side Rockwell College was next where four points separated the sides at full time as it finished 24-28.
Fellow Limerick side Castletroy College was next up for Glenstal Abbey as they recorded their second win of their campaign with a score of 3-13.
Their final game will take place this Wednesday as they face PBC in Cork.
St. Munchins College
St Munchins currently sit in fourth place on six points with one game still to play.
Their season kicked off with a 64-0 defeat to 2024 winners PBC.
A narrow 32-26 loss to Glenstal Abbey was next on the cards for the Limerick side.
But this didn’t deter them as they rallied in their third game of the group to beat Rockwell College 19-14.
Their final game with take place this afternoon against Castletroy College in Corbally.
Castletroy College
Castletroy College take up the final spot in the Group A table with three losses in their first three games.
They travelled to Rockwell for their first game of the competition where the Tipperary side ran out 30-22 winners.
Next up for the Limerick side was Cork’s Presentation Brothers College where the visitors came away with the win with a score of 5-26.
They welcomed Glenstal Abbey to the school grounds earlier this month where they went down 3-13.
Their final game will be against third place St. Munchins College in Corbally this afternoon.

Crescent College Comprehensive
Crescent College are your Group B table toppers with 18 points to their name from three wins and a draw.
The Limerick side got their competition underway with a 24-all draw against West Cork outfit Bandon Grammar.
They welcomed Munster’s Club Select Player programme to UL a week later where they earned their first win of the campaign with a score of 24-12.
Next up was fellow Limerick side Ardscoil Rís who they overcame 21-43.
Their final group stage game saw them face current title holder Christian Brothers College. After a tough battle the Limerick side came out on top with a score of 24-14.
Bandon Grammar School
Bandon Grammar currently sit in second place in the Group B table, with just one point separating them from leaders Crescent College.
They met Crescent College in their opening game of the competition which ended all square at 24 points a piece.
They welcomed Ardscoil Rís to West Cork the following week where they ran out 24-17 winners.
Next up was a trip to the city to face fellow Cork side Christian Brothers College in Lansdowne. It was another surprising defeat for the current title holders as Bandon ran out 26-44 winners at the final whistle.
The final game of the pool saw them make the trip to Virgin Media Park to take on the Munster’s Club Select Player programme side. It was another great day out for the West Cork outfit as they defeated the home side 24-50.
Christian Brothers College
Current title holders Christian Brothers College sit in the third spot in the table with 11 points from their two wins and two losses.
The Cork City side were handed their first loss of their campaign in their opening round against Bandon Grammar as the West Cork side ran out 26-44 winners.
But they bounced back quickly as they went on to defeat the Munster CSP team in Virgin Media Park with a score of 14-40.
Next up was a trip to Limerick to face Crescent College where they once again suffered a defeat as the game finished 24-14.
They faced Ardscoil Rís in their final group game of the competition where they earned their second win of the campaign. After an end-to-end game the Cork side took the win with a full time score of 24-12.
Ardscoil Rís
Ardscoil Rís currently sit in fourth place on six points.
They kicked off their schools cup campaign with a 24-17 loss to West Cork outfit Bandon Grammar.
Next up was the Munster CSP side where they ran out 33-24 winners in Fitzgerald Park.
Their third game of the campaign saw them make the trip across the city to Crescent College where they suffered their second defeat with a final score of 43-21.
The Limerick side made the trip to Cork for their final game of the group stage as they faced title holders CBC.
It was another tightly contested game but ultimately was not to be for the visitors as they were defeated 24-12.
Munster Club Select Player
The CSP (Club Select Player) programme is a player development initiative in Munster which sees age-grade club players play in high intensity games in the pre-Christmas pool stages of the Pinergy Munster Schools Cups.
This year’s CSP team was entered into Group B and finished in fifth place with two points.
They kicked off proceedings in this year’s competition by facing Crescent College in Crescent where they were defeated 24-12.
Next up for the squad was a meeting with Ardscoil Rís in Fitzgerald Park where the home side took the win 33-24.
They welcomed fellow Cork side Christian Brothers College to Virgin Media Park for their third game of the competition where they were once again defeated 14-40.
Bandon Grammar made the trip to Virgin Media Park for the CSP team’s final game of the season. They once again fell just short as the West Cork outfit headed home with a 24-50 win.
The members of the CSP programme will now return to their clubs for the remainder of their season.

Pinergy Munster Schools Boys Senior Cup Qualifier
The qualifier for this year’s Pinergy Munster Schools Boys Senior Cup Qualifier kicked off in October as Colaiste Choilm Ballincollig faced Coliste Pobail Bheanntrai in Ballincollig.
Colaiste Choilm ran out winners on the day with a score of 31-20.
The second round one game saw Hamilton High School Bandon defeat Midleton CBS 38-24 in Bandon.
Kinsale Community College and Villers School both received byes into the semi final. Due to Villiers conceding their semi final spot Kinsale Community School were awarded the first spot in the Pinergy Munster Schools Boys Senior Cup Qualifier final.
The second semi final will see Colaiste Choilm Ballincollig meet Hamilton High School Bandon.
